“Love you, too.”
“I’ll pick you up later,” he promised, giving her one last kiss. Her hair was spread across the pillow, making her look like an angel.Every single part of her was gorgeous. He hovered for a moment, hating to leave her.He had training though, and she’d be safe in bed until he returned.

QUINN TOOK A SIP OFher coffee, glancing at the clock.Knox was running late returning from his training session, and she had a slew of things to get to in the office.Tomorrow was finally Saturday. They’d clean out her fridge, pack a suitcase, and get her moved in with Knox—temporarily, at any rate.Although she’d been over to his place once, she was looking forward to spending more time there. She felt a little guilty that he always spent the night at her apartment. This would be a good way to switch things up, and if it kept her safer, all the better.
Quinn texted Knox to let him know she was heading in.She grabbed her rucksack, carrying her travel mug of coffee, and headed down to her car.It was another gloomy Seattle day. When she climbed in, she locked the doors and pushed the button to start the engine, frowning when nothing happened.Trying again, she jolted as the lights flashed a couple of times before it completely died.
“Damn it,” she muttered. It was probably just the battery.Naturally, it happened when Knox wasn’t here. They could’ve jumpstarted it together.Frowning, she climbed back out, scanning the lot. She’d go back inside to call the roadside assistance company to give her a jump. There was no point in waiting out here with her vehicle.
Returning to her place, she gave her information over the phone.Quinn pulled out her laptop and settled in, ready to work from home until the truck arrived.
Knox called her, saying they were finally heading back to the office soon.
“I’m not there yet,” she told him.“My car wouldn’t start, so I’ve got a tow truck coming to jump it.”
“Want me to swing by?”Knox asked.
“It’s fine,” Quinn assured him.“I already called. You’re still wrapping up your training.Even if you pick me up, I still need to take care of this.I was planning to bring my car to your place tomorrow. It’s probably just a dead battery, but what do I know?”
“I can be there in thirty,” he told her.
“No, I’ll be okay.I’ll text you when I’m on my way in.Love you.”
“Love you, too, baby girl.Let me know if you run into any trouble.”
They ended the call, and Quinn clicked on the feeds she’d been monitoring at Qureshi’s residence. They’d set it up to record movement at the apartment complex and run it through facial recognition software, but she felt better putting her own eyes on the camera feeds as well.As she scrolled through the footage, nothing seemed amiss.
She looked toward the window, noting the rain had begun to fall.Perfect, she thought sarcastically.
Thirty minutes later, her phone buzzed with a text saying the driver had arrived.Quinn shut her laptop, shot off another quick text to Knox, and went outside to see the tow truck just pulling in.She watched in surprise as it drove straight to her car.The lot was only partly full, but still. She’d assumed he’d be circling around to locate her vehicle.
The truck pulled up right alongside her car.Quinn pulled the hood of her raincoat over her head and rushed across the lot, pausing to open her car door. The rain started coming down harder, and she quietly cursed.Hopefully this wouldn’t delay the service tech that had just arrived. She reached in to pop the hood, then stood back up.
“What seems to be the trouble?”a male voice asked, and suddenly, the hair on the back of Quinn’s neck stood up.
She swallowed and slowly turned around, feeling slightly numb as she saw Adam Qureshi pointing a gun at her.Her eyes briefly darted to the left and right, as if she somehow expected the tow truck driver to appear.Except they were all alone.
“I took care of him,” Adam said, his voice hard.“But you’re coming with me.”
