Chapter

Eight

Lachlan watched the herd of children and familiar animals run about, playing tag. They were all very careful of Micah, who sat on the family room floor on a blanket, slapping the floor and squealing.

The adults were currently waiting for the huge pans of lasagna to heat up.

Little Kaden was next to Micah, jabbering and blowing bubbles, and it was adorable.

His nephew, his… Micah. The twins and Grant and little Gwynne, plus Bea’s little boy who was so tall, his laughter filling the air.

Magic.

Best of all?

Kieran was down here, sitting next to Lars, chuckling softly, a gentle smile on his face.

“You look happy,” Logan told Lachlan, coming to stand beside him, arms crossed over his chest.

“I am. This is… more than I ever expected.”

“Mating feels like that to all of us, I think.” He got a quick grin, a wink.

“Does it? Good to know. My asshole brother rarely tells me anything about it.” Not that he didn’t adore his little bro, but the guy was deep in the mate and baby love right now.

“I think he has guilt. It’s time for him to get over it, hmm?” Logan’s grin was pure wickedness. He did love that about his fellow Guardian.

“I think you’re right. I might ask him to stay for a beer after everyone else goes.”

“I bet he’d love that. Lars seems to be really getting along with Kieran. I love that. He needs a friend.”

“Kieran or Lars?” he teased. Lars was a love, and everyone adored him, but he needed more people who were genuinely his friends.

“I meant Kieran. Lars is in this wing to his bones. He’ll make sure Kieran knows everyone, if Kieran gives him the chance.” Logan glanced at Kieran again. “Oh, I think he will. He looks happier now than he has ever since I met him. You’re doing wonderful things with him, but I would love to see him leave the house. If he won’t come to mine, maybe he’ll go to Lars’s, which is so comfy, you know.”

“That’s my next goal, to get him to leave the house. I think he’ll feel safer going to someone else’s home and not out to, like, the Gold Digger or whatever, but we can work with it.”

“Well, the Gold Digger may feel a way outside the wing, hmm? And I imagine he wouldn’t want to go without you. Too many humans to see you.”

“That’s my thought, too. It’s just hanging out there on the road.” He shrugged. “They do have great food, though. Bryant has brought me some. He could go with Lars.”

I want to share with you. I want to be with you, Lachlan.

We’ll order in some stuff from there maybe tomorrow. They have pizza and burgers… So yum.

You promised jalapeno toothpicks and onion rings too.

I did. So we’ll do it.He beamed across the room at Kieran, so proud to be his mate.

Kieran winked at him, and didn’t that warm him up, balls to bones?

“You are so fucked,” Logan told him.

“I know. Isn’t it grand?”

“Yeah. Absolutely. Congrats, buddy. I’m tickled for you.”

“Thanks. You want to play some cards? We could beat our brothers’ asses.”
