“Before you what?” Thomas sneered at him. “What are you going to do? There’s nobody here, and I’m doubting you can get anywhere to call for help in any hurry.” Another disdainful glance, and Rupert almost shuddered, it felt that vile to have Thomas’s eyes on him. “You’ve really let yourself go.”

“I’m pregnant!” Rupert barked.

“Even worse.”

“Moose! Charli!” Rupert called. “Charli!”

Thomas pointed at the papers. “I told you no one’s here. And besides, you really think that old bitch can do anything?”

“If you hurt her—”

“You should worry about yourself,” Thomas said with a glint in his eyes, and Rupert’s heart was suddenly in his throat. He watched in terror as the alpha reached over him and pointed at the papers.

“You should leave,” Rupert said when he was sure his voice wouldn’t betray him. “Leave and never contact me again.”

“I can make that happen,” Thomas said. “You just need to sign here, saying you’ll give me my fair share as part of the divorce settlement. And then I’ll sign the divorce papers, and you’ll never see me again.”

Rupert glanced at him nervously. Thomas snorted. “Trust me, never would be too soon to see you again.”

Rupert shook his head and thrust the papers back at Thomas. “Your fair share is nothing. I’m not signing.”

Thomas lunged suddenly, grabbing him by the hair. “You think you have a choice?”

Rupert twisted in his grip. “Let—go,” he ground out.

“Sign the papers. You don’t want me to hurt you, do you?”

“That’s a threat,” Rupert gritted out.

“Oh-ho, is someone studying law? Here I thought all you were studying was how to spread your legs like the whore you are.”

“Get off me!” Rupert cried, trying to shove him away.

“Don’t make me hurt you, sweetheart. It’s really just this one simple, itty-bitty task … what does it matter to you anyway? I heard you’re running around, handing it all out anyway—giving away all my money to those bloody—”

“It’s not your money!” Rupert yelped when Thomas swung him around, nearly sending him backward over the bench at the end of the bed. Instead, the alpha wrenched on his wrist, keeping him upright and locked in his grasp.

“Cocksucking cunt!” Thomas barked. “Just sign the damn papers, Lord knows you’re just going to piss it all away for some Black dick and—”

“Let go of me! You’re hurting me!”

“Rupert?”

“Shit,” Thomas hissed above him.

There were footsteps in the hall. “Rupert?”

Thomas darted to the door, dragging Rupert with him. Rupert stumbled behind him, trying to wrench free. “Oh—ow! Winnie, watch out!”

Winston barely ducked as Thomas lurched into a punch, Rupert still grasped in his free hand. Rupert flailed behind him and, unable to compensate for the motion, collided with the door. He gasped for breath, then crumpled to his knees.

“Who the hell are you?!” Winston barked, grabbing Thomas by the front of his shirt and tossing him back.

“Mbulelo?” Mama Thandiwe called.

“Mbulelo! What the hell is going on!” Ndileka barked.

“He’s my ex-husband,” Rupert gasped.
