“I don’t want him to take care of me,” I protest, but Sobek just waves a hand in my face. “Please, just listen to me—”
“I have been listening to you,” the alpha says. “It is time for you to listen to me.” He squeezes my shoulder, almost painfully this time. His golden eyes widen. “You’re going to go with Nojak. He will teach you how to behave.”
“I want to stay with you!” I manage to choke out.
Sobek sighs and looks away. “That,” he growls, “is not an option.”
“Yes, it is, you just won’t—”
Tiakka slams the book shut. “Twenty-five hundred pebbles,” he says. “Excellent, a very good transaction. You’ll meet here on the morrow, Nojak with the pebbles, Sobek with the omega. The omega will be inspected to ensure no harm has come to him before he can be transferred to his new alpha.”
Sobek and Nojak sign what looks like some sort of contract. My heart leaps into my throat as he shakes hands with Nojak again, then guides me away from the counter, back into the bright sunlight of the day.
I have one more night to get him to change his mind and let me stay with him.
