“Nothing.” She shrugged her shoulder, taking her nuggets from the bag.

“You really like her?” I shrugged that time, rubbing my chin.

“I don’t know. Maybe. Why?” My eyes moved between her and the road.

Ronnie dipped a nugget into the barbecue sauce. “Tell her what happened, why you couldn’t do what she wanted.” After she said that, she put it in her mouth.

“Ma, it ain’t that easy.”

“Why?” she countered.

A frown made its way on my face. “What you mean?”

“Why isn’t it that easy?” Our heads turned toward each other at the same time before we both started laughing. That’s some déjà vu shit.

“Because she won’t get it.” I replied, still smiling hard.

“Maybe you don’t want her to.”Was Ronnie’s ass the love expert now?

“Huh?”

“Huh?” she mimicked. “Maybe you don’t want her to get it. Maybe you don’t like her as much as you thought you did.”

I thought about what she said. I could’ve just told Jasmine from the jump what the situation was, but I chose to keep it to myself.

“You’re probably right, Ms. Lady.” She grinned.

We stayed silent the rest of the way to the crib. It wasn’t an uncomfortable silence, though. It was peaceful. Being with her made sense to me. Everything felt right, and nothing between us was forced.

When we pulled into the driveway, I immediately noticed a small crowd outside and wondered why. That’s when I saw it. Danielle and Rayna were out in the yard, fighting.

Aw shit!

Chapter 19

Ronnie

I was drinkingmy soda when we pulled up to Reese’s house. Seeing two girls going at it on the porch made it go down the wrong pipe.

“You good?” I coughed multiple times, waving to let him know I was okay.

“Yeah, go.”

After I got myself together, I hopped out too. Reese had his arms wrapped around one of ‘em tryna break them apart. Another girl was standing in the doorway, shaking her head.

“Let my hair go Rayna!” the girl shouted, so I’m guessing Rayna was the person Reese is holding.

“Bitch, I should’ve fired you a long time ago!” She reached out, and her fist went across the girl’s face as Reese lifted her up in the air.

“Fuck going on around here?” Reese barked.

“I caught her tryna steal from you. You thieving hoe!” Rayna struggled to get out of her brother’s hold. I scanned the area to make sure no one was around. Paparazzi be ready to jump outta the bushes, quick, fast and in a hurry.

“Rayna, stop.” The girl from the porch shouted.

“No.” She managed to get free and chased the girl around the yard.

“Rayna Jade, quit running after that damn girl!” Reese looked crazy tryna break them up and this was clearly beyond his expertise. “Danielle, what the fuck you stole from me?”
