He stares at me.
“Well, what do you think she’d say if you brought it up?”
I let out a breath. “That we are too different, and that dating is the last thing we should talk about. I mean, we haven’t talked about the baby room or names or vaccines or anything else we need to talk about.”
“So then, if that’s what she said, you’d see her point, right?”
Unfortunately for me, I would.
“Yeah. I would.”
“Give it a little time. Things might change.”
I sure hope he’s right.
“Whoa, Mark Austin Young in the library studying before class. I never thought I’d see the day.”
I turn to spot Tripp and Lennox, shaking my head at her sarcasm.
“I could say the same for your fiancé.” I nod toward Tripp.
“I’m a full-blown college student now,” he says proudly.
They join us at the table, and a silence takes over as everyone dives into a little extra study time.
Everyone keeps saying to give it time, but I’m not so sure that I want to. As I told them, Syd’s and my situation are different. I think I should take my feelings and run with it. Worst case is we end up as two people raising a child who do the bare minimum to communicate, and best case, she moves with me to Manhattan, and we share our lives together.
It’s a chance I’m willing to take.
Sydney
Manhattan.
He’s moving to Manhattan.
Of all the things I expected him to say the other night, that was not it.
I definitely didn’t expect him to ask me to move with him. I mean, would I?
No. No. My life is here. My family is here. We aren’t even dating.Thank goodness. What a mess that would be if we were.
I let out a deep breath, and tears sting my eyes.
I should definitely move into my apartment when it’s ready. A part of me thought maybe we could do this, but it’s clear that’s not going to happen the way I saw it.
I’ve been trying to give us space by doing things on my own, because falling into a routine with him was easy.
Everything with him is easy.
The timer on the microwave goes off, so I fix my bowl and head to the living room.
I need to do something mindless. So, I’m about to scarf down some homemade macaroni and cheese and then some chocolate chip cookies in front of the TV while I catch up on multiple episodes ofYellowstone. Beth Dutton, what will I learn today?
Pregnant Sydney is ready to be just as confident as Beth. Just with a little less intensity.
I set my food on the coffee table, pull it closer, and then cover myself with the softest freaking blanket of my life before grabbing my food. When I got home last night, there was a dish in the fridge with a sticky note. Mark made me dinner. I wasn’t hungry then, but let me tell you, I’m sad I waited. This is the creamiest macaroni I’ve ever had.
Ten minutes later and I’m fully invested in making bets over who is going to the train station at the end of this episode.
