“You’re a menace.”

“And yet, here I am, carrying this conversation. So will youpleasetell me what the hell that text was all about?”

I sigh and drop onto the couch, tucking my legs under me. “Maybe I should have kept this to myself. My shitty string of crazy life decisions.”

Luci scoffs. “Stop darting around the subject. Give me all the details.”

“There are no details.”

“There areabsolutelydetails.”

I bite my bottom lip, trying to prevent a slightly hysterical laugh from erupting. “There are… minimal details.”

“Addy.”

“Luci.”

“That’s it. I’m booking a train.” Luci leans closer to the camera, eyes bright with threat-level enthusiasm. “Now that you’re much closer, we’re overdue for a visit anyway.”

My head snaps up. “You’re what?”

“I need to see this man.”

“You don't need to see this man.”

“I do,” she insists. “For research.”

I pet Captain as my life spirals in front of my eyes, on this stupid little phone screen of mine. I wasnotexpecting this to happen. “You don’t get to research my life.”

“I absolutely do. I’m your sister. It’s in the contract.”

“There's no contract.”

“There is now.”

I press my lips together, already losing this argument. “He’s my boss.”

“Mm.”

“That’s it.”

Luci’s smirk says she has already convicted me in the court of sisterly judgment.

“Nothing else,” I insist. “No reason for you to come and check out the guy I definitely can’t have anything serious with.”

“Sure.”

I narrow my eyes at the screen. “Why do I feel like you don’t believe me?”

“Because,” she says, leaning closer to the camera like she’s about to deliver a TED Talk, “you only use that tone when you’re lying or when you’ve made a terrible decision you’re trying to rebrand as a neutral life event.”

“I’m not rebranding anything.”

“You slept with himtwice, didn’t you?”

I groan and drop my head back against the couch. “I hate you.”

“You love me,” she corrects. “Also, I’m coming this weekend.”
