To me.
I’m not worthy, yet I fucked her anyway.
My cell phone vibrates against my nightstand. I scrub a palm over my face. Low curls deeper into me, making sleepy noises. I glance at the clock on my phone. It’s too fucking early for someone to be texting me. Someone better be dead or on theverge of death. And if they aren’t, they’re going to be for waking me up at five am.
I check the notification. It’s Kaylene asking if we can talk.
Kaylene: I need to talk to you ASAP.
I debate ignoring her when another message pops up. This time it’s an image.
“What the fuck?” I mutter to myself, shifting Low off me.
I look at the picture again.
A white stick with two distinct pink lines.
Kaylene is pregnant.
Fuck my life.
Fuck.
My.
Life.
This can’t be happening to me.
I must be having a goddamn nightmare.
Just because she’s pregnant doesn’t mean the baby is mine.
It doesn’t have to change anything.
I stare at Willow, gliding a hand along the curve of her hip. I know how she’ll take the news. She’ll pretend she’s fine. That she can handle it, but deep down she’ll hate me and resent that I gave someone else a baby.
I know her. She wants the picture-perfect life. The white picket fence. Two kids and a dog. She wants to stay home with her babies while her man provides.
I’m going to lose her when I just barely got her.
As though she knows I’m staring at her, and something is wrong, she yawns and blinks.
“Hi,” she whispers and snuggles back into my side.
I place my phone back on the nightstand face down.
“Go back to sleep.”
“Is everything okay? I mean, with Jessika and my brother?”
“As far as I know.”
“You look pissed off.”
“Got shit on my mind.”
“Want to talk about it?”
