“I know a quaint little Mexican place in town or if you’d prefer, we can head to Seattle.”

Was I risking pushing her away by closing the distance between us? Probably, but the draw to her was otherworldly. In other words, I couldn’t stop the way I was feeling under any circumstances.

She eyed me carefully, not yet content that I’d apologized or groveled enough.

“Please try and forgive me. I would never to anything to hurt you, Georgia.”

“But you did.”

“Yeah, I know. I’ll do everything I can to make it up to you.” When I lifted my hand, I was certain she’d smack it away, but she partially closed her eyes, enough that her long dark lashes skimmed across the shimmer of her cheeks. “You’re so beautiful. And I’m such a shithead. You can’t honestly think I’d hurt you physically. If I ever did something so horrible, my mother would be the one to kick my ass. I abhor men who abuse women.”

Her body language indicated the subject was off the table, so I backed off. Finally, she relaxed enough that her feisty mood returned.

“I’ll accept shithead.”

At least my admittance brought laughter, the sound absolutely beautiful music.

I brushed my fingers across her face, the physical reaction more intense than before. The reaction not only meant we were drawing closer but also that the need would becomeuncontrollable if I wasn’t careful. “Does that mean you’ll go out with me?”

“Yes, but on one condition.”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from you. What is it?”

“That you’ll do whatever it takes to try out for the Hellions.”

I took a deep whiff and brushed hair from her shoulder, enjoying her shudder. “That’s a tall order.”

“Are you man enough to handle it?”

Now she was speaking my language. “Am I man enough to handle you?”

“Hmmm… I’m not entirely certain I remember. Maybe you’ll need to provide me with another example. Just to be certain.”

“Maybe I can make that happen.” I lowered my head, eager to taste her soft lips.

The brat.

She pulled away, backing toward the swinging door leading to the preparation area. “Is that a yes?”

“Alright. Yes, I’ll try out for the Hellions.”

With a smirk forming, she reached in through the door, snagging something. “Catch.”

She tossed me a towel, which managed to bring a smile to my face.

“Then I’ll go out with you. But don’t you dare go back on your word. You won’t like me very much if you do.”

“I have a feeling I’ll like you just fine. But surviving your wrath might be something else altogether.”

CHAPTER 20

Georgia

When the bright red truck pulled out of the parking lot, I finally took a deep breath.

I had a date.

For tonight.
