“Yeah.”

“Ain’t happening. We’re falling back to the compound,” Warden ordered.

“You don’t command me,” Jude stated.

“Ain’t. I’m telling Dynamo. The club can protect her better,” Warden replied.

Mike and I exchanged glances. This was going to become a dick-measuring match. “Dynamo’s safe here,” Mike said, and I shook my head.

“Wrong. You’ve got mad skills, gotta respect that. Your former roles aren’t anything to be sniffed at, but you don’t have the firepower the RBMC has. I lost Dynamo once, not doing that again. Dynamo, you’re coming home and letting us protect you,” Warden declared.

“She’s my woman!” Mike exploded.

“And a Royal Bastard, and we failed Dynamo already!” Warden retorted. “We won’t risk losing her.”

“Don’t I get a decision?” I asked mildly, and everyone turned.

“You’re damn good, gotta be to be in SEAL Team Six. But Rainbow was one too. He knows how you think and what you’ll do. He doesn’t know us. Rainbow won’t expect what firepower we can bring. We’re safer on RBMC land than here,” I said to Mike.

“You ain’t soldiers,” Mike argued.

“No? Just because we didn’t sign up, that doesn’t mean we haven’t fought our entire lives,” I retorted.

“Babe, we’re more secure than the compound,” Mike insisted.

“I’m asking you to trust me.”

“I do, and I need you to stay,” Mike urged.

“We’ll agree to disagree. I’m going to the clubhouse.”

Mike was stupid; he knew what we were.

Mike looked like he wanted to say something, but Warden started walking out, and I followed. But disappointment welled after what we’d just shared; Mike hadn’t believed in us. That was on his head.

Chapter Fourteen.

Mike

The look on Dynamo’s face said everything; we’d just shared something very intimate, and then I’d doubted her abilities. But this place was safer. Rainbow wouldn’t attack here. He’d know we would have fortified the base, however temporary it might be. But the Royal Bastards were open season for him. Rainbow would have no trouble infiltrating their compound.

“Shit,” I muttered. I wouldn’t leave Raven and Robin, but the woman I loved was walking into danger. Jude captured my gaze.

“The girls come first,” he said, and I scowled.

“I know that, asshole; I’m their father. The Royal Bastards are making a huge mistake. We need to monitor them.”

“Can’t. We’ve two teams on missions and not enough men to cover both sites. Mike, we’ve gotta protect the kids while we formulate a plan to capture Rainbow.”

Torn, I watched the bike lights fade before following Jude back inside.

“How are we handling this?” I asked in church.

Warden glanced over and smirked. “Carefully. We’re going to pull McKay and this hitman in together.”

Determined to end the threat, I nodded. “This time, McKay dies. Motherfucker owes me and Vogue.”
