He creeps one eye open to look at me. “I have to go and let Darcy out. I can’t really leave him any longer, and I need a shower and to clean my teeth. I should head home.”
“Oh, okay.” I try to hide the disappointment in my tone and keep my smile easy.
“But, if you don’t mind Darcy coming with me, I’d love to join you for breakfast once I’m freshened up?” He lays his hand on my cheek, thumb stroking small circles onto my temple.
I relax back into the pillow and grin at him. “I can work with that.”
He leans into me to kiss my lips and Heathcliff meows in annoyance, scrambling to his feet and walking down the length of August’s body in protest before he jumps off the bed and disappears. “Why do I feel he’s plotting my demise?” August whispers over my lips.
“He is,” I whisper back, gravely. “You may only have hours left.”
“You best start the toast then; I can’t possibly die without having tried mint sauce on toast.”
“It would be a crying shame.”
He grins and closes the mere distance between us, kissing me like morning breath isn’t even a thing. “Give me forty minutes?”
“Sure,” I agree easily, knowing I need at least that to call Cas and tell them about every detail of the last twenty-four hours. I hope August doesn’t mind, but I tell Cas everything and this is huge.
August gets up, gathering his clothes and putting them back on before he turns to rake his eyes over my still naked body—aside from the socks that have now sagged so they’re mostly gathered around my ankles—tangled in the sheets and smiles a smile that’s both smug and awed. It makes me bite my lip in an attempt not to show him how giddy I’m feeling.
“Fucking hell,” he huffs over a laugh, shaking his head and swiping his palm over his face, but he doesn’t manage to wipe away his cheesy grin. “I’ll be back in a little while.”
“I’ll have the toast and mint sauce ready.”
He shakes his head again but doesn’t say anything else, walking out of my bedroom beaming. I wait until I hear the front door close before I squeal into my pillow. My stomach is alive with nervous excitement, my heart thumping at double speed and I cannot temper this damn smile if I try. Finding my pyjama top half hanging off my bedside table, I pull it over my head and take my phone in hand, pressing Cas’s contact.
When the camera comes to life, a very bleary-eyed Cas scowls at me from the screen. “Dude, what the Hell, it’s my day off and itsoearly.”
“I slept with August,” I blurt without preamble.
Cas rolls their sleepy eyes. “Wow, who could have seen that coming?”
“Your sarcasm is not appreciated at this time.” I purse my lips then squint at my phone. “Where are you?” I ask, not recognising the bedding or the wall behind them.
“Nina’s.” Cas yawns.
“You guys are doing sleepovers now?"
“Well, we did last night but I doubt I’ll be invited back because my phone started blaring at six a.m. because my best friend couldn’t wait to tell me she got some.” Cas gives me a flat look, which I return in kind.
“It’s eight a.am.”
“Whatever.” They wave a hand dismissively. “So, how was the sex?”
“Ah-maze-ing,” I groan. “Oh my god, he made me come twice.”
“And that’s a new thing for you?”
“Yes, normally once I’m done, I’m done, you know?”
“Sure, sure, sure. So, August has mystical orgasm summoning powers, huge tick in his favour. What else?”
“Cas,” I say seriously. “He’s huge.”
They pause for a moment, one brow hiking up sceptically. “How huge?”
“Insanely.”
