"Okay, yes. I like her."

"Better. And what are you going to do about it?"

Erin closes her eyes for a moment and shakes her head.

"I have no idea, seriously. Out of everything I've figured out today, one of the most important things is that I don't know her. I haven't bothered to get to know her this whole time. I decided who Mia was instead of finding out whether any of it was true."

"Then you do know what you need to do."

Erin's laugh is deep and loosens something in her, like she's shedding weight with every breath she lets out.

"You're right."

"Of course I am, Dooley. Now you can go." She makes a shooing gesture toward the door, amused, and Erin lets out another laugh as she stands, facing the woman.

"I said it before, but thank you again, Nell."

"You know where to find me, Erin. Come to me whenever you need to."

Chapter 22

"How are you feeling today?" Mia looked up from her phone when Erin stopped beside her.

They were in the hotel's private dining room, and it was breakfast time, but today the doctor was paying extra attention because the concert was that night.

"Fine. I haven't felt that weird pressure again." The singer touched the back of her neck. "I'm perfectly okay."

A server came over with her plate, and Mia gestured to a chair across from her.

"Do you want to have breakfast with me?"

"Where's Noah?" Erin asked, surprised, since they always ate together.

"In his room. He has company," she said, and that crooked smile appeared, making Erin's stomach tighten.

"Oh." The doctor sat down across from her.

"Have you ordered already?" the singer asked.

"Yeah, don't worry. And while we're at it—how many hours did you sleep?"

Mia made a face. This was only the second time Erin had sat with her since all of this started, and she would have loved for her to spend the time on something other than her damn fainting spells, but the doctor had asked for a truce, and Mia was willing to do whatever it took if it meant Erin might change her mind about her.

"Six hours, maybe seven. Did you sleep well?"

Erin looked up from her small notebook, caught off guard.

"It's just a question, Dooley. It won't kill you to answer."

The corner of Erin's mouth curved, and Mia felt a sudden rush of desire swirl through her.

"Yeah, I slept pretty well."

"Glad to hear it." The singer sounded so sincere that Erin didn't know what to say next, because she wasn't used to people asking her things like that.

"I've had half a liter of water since I got up, and now this." Mia pointed to her glass.

"Good. Try to drink a little more than usual today."
