Chapter Thirty-three

Mia

I don’t actually remember going to bed last night and my head is paying for it.

I slowly make my way out to the kitchen to find Ava sitting at the table and nursing a large mug of coffee.

“Morning,” I mumble as I walk past her and to the coffee machine.

“Urgh,” she groans as her head drops to the table. “I tried to have phone sex with River last night and I fell asleep on him. I’m the worst fiancé ever.”

I start to laugh but I’m brought up short when a memory of my own surfaces. “Oh shit, so did I.”

“Girls,” Bella groans as she walks into the room. “I fell asleep before I got Reed off during phone sex last night.”

I can’t help but snort into my coffee. “Sounds like the three of us did the same thing.”

“Why did we think that was a good idea?” She shakes her head as she makes her way to the coffee machine. Harper walks in and grabs a mug of her own. All four of us are coffee addicts.

“Because we were horny drunks, but clearly a little more on the drunk side.”

“What’s happened?” Harper queries as she takes a sip of her hangover cure.

“All three of us fell asleep during phone sex last night.”

She chokes on the sip of coffee she’d just taken as she roars with laughter. “I fucking love you girls.”

So do I.

Thankfully, we feel better by the time the boat trip rolls around. It’s amazing what coffee and some greasy food can do. We’re sitting at the front of the yacht lounging on cushions in the sun and sipping on champagne. This was a fantastic idea.

“So, Harps my beautiful friend, when are we going to see you meet your man.” Bella was the first of us to fall and she’s determined that all of us need to be as happy as she is with Reed. Ava’s found that with River and I think I might have with Hudson, time will tell.

“Oh, I don’t think that’s really on the cards for me.” We whip our heads to look at her.

“What are you talking about? Of course you’re going to find your happily ever after.”Why on earth does she think that wouldn’t happen?

“Sometimes it’s just not meant to be for some people.”

“I’m sorry,” Ava splutters. “Why does it sound like you’ve already met him?”

“It doesn’t matter and I’m not having this conversation. Not now anyway, not this weekend.”

“Well, it’s my weekend and I’d like to have this conversation. Harper something is going on, and we want to know about it. We want to be here for you just like you have been for us.”

“Bella if you love me, you’ll drop it for now. Please.”

We’re not happy about it and it’s something we will definitely be speaking to her about, but for now we do as she asks and we don’t question her further.

I can vouch for all of us that the thought of her hurting hurts us, too.

As we step off the boat my gaze snags on a man further up the pier with his back to us. I squint to try and get a better look but he’s too far away and people are now blocking my view.

I could have sworn that was Hudson.
