A sigh rips from her when she says, “Medals. The triangle means I found some medals in this inventory.I always put those aside in a drawer.Once a year I go through them all and sort them out. Some are a crapshoot and not specific to anyone. Those I set aside.Though, there are some specified to someone, processed through the courts, and those I try to return to the family if there is anyone left.”
“So, the triangle with the line straight though it means you found medals in Jasper Molin’s inventory?”I clarify.
Lina bobs her head.“Yes, the triangle means I found medals, but I put a line straight through it because his daughter sold the items and made it clear she didn’t want anything from her father. When I go through the medals, I always check the seller’s list.”
“Where do you keep ’em stashed?”Fatal asks and gets to his feet.
Lina turns to him.“My place.”
“Let’s go,” Fatal rumbles.“Norie, you coming or staying?”
His old lady gives him a small smile.“I’m going to finish the books if you don’t mind.”
Fatal walks over to kiss his woman while I guide mine out the door.I call out to Quint, Swade, Laith, and Lumos to join us as we walk out of the clubhouse.
Lina is still grumbling about hating herself for not checking the notebook herself these past few days, and she’s right.I was the one checking the notebook to glance at the full inventory from six months ago.She might have noticed the tiny triangle and thought about the medals. On the other hand, coins aren’t medals so why should she?
She wraps her arms tightly around my waist as I guide the bike onto the road. The short ride to her shop is uneventful. We park our bikes around back and this time Lina doesn’t hand me the keys, but speedwalks to the door herself. We are running out of time, that’s for damn sure.
Lina rushes up the stairs to her apartment and we all follow her.We were just here to grab her some more clothes, but I didn’t notice the vase standing in the corner she’s now shoving her arm inside of.She pulls out a large bag and I can’t even blink before she simply drops the contents out on the floor.
Medals, tiny boxes, velvet bags, and different kinds of stuff are littering the floor as Lina sinks to her feet and starts to pick up items one by one.We all walk closer and squat down to help her.
CHAPTER TWENTY
–LINA –
I search desperately through the medals before me as if this is the last chance to help Karev. It might as well be with the few hours of Calvania’s deadline left. The six bikers and I form a circle around the pile of items, quickly grasping for any gold item that looks like a coin.Heart opens a box when Fatal grabs a black velvet pouch.
Heart curses and puts the box to the side while Fatal gives a low whistle, drawing everyone’s attention. He holds out his hand and turns the pouch upside-down, letting three items slide to the palm of his hand.
“Holy shit, is that....?”I whisper and lean close.
Fatal throws Heart a look.“Call Karev.Now.”
Heart jumps to his feet and grabs his phone. He thumbs the screen and places the phone next to his ear.Glancing at me, he shakes his head.Shit.He’s not picking up.I reach for my own phone and quickly thumb off a message.Heart doesn’t get a chance to lower his phone when it starts to ring.
