Myome blinked several times while I watched her thoughts race over her face as she processed.

“Is that a yes?”

“Why? You work with the feds?” I joked.

“That’s not funny. I’m serious.”

“So am I.” I rounded the counter. “Trapp played with you and he won’t be playing shit else. That’s it. It’s a done deal and I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Have you killed anyone before?” she repeated.

“I was raised where I was raised, sold work, and was fucking around with gang banging ass Dashawn. I’ve shot back at niggas who shot at me and I’ve protected the people I love. No women, children, or animals, just men who needed to be put down like them.” I set my hands on either side of Myome while I leaned into her space. She blinked up at me.

“How many?”

“Five.”

She opened her mouth then snapped it shut and nodded.

“Okay.”

“You know I love you and I’d never hurt you and that’s all that matters.”

“Okay,” she repeated.

“Okay?”

“Mhm.” She nodded. “I just… Be careful.”

“Always.” I kissed her. “I’ve got you, Twin, and if anybody ever threatens you, they gone. I mean that shit.”

“As proven?” she tested.

I nodded once but didn’t vocalize an answer. A soft smile touched Myome’s face.

“I don’t want to talk about this shit any more. Just know yo’ man gon’ step for you every fucking time in any way he deems necessary.”

“Trust me. I know that.”

I searched her eyes briefly to make sure she was serious about what she’d said then nodded when I was satisfied.

“Good because even you couldn’t stop me from stepping for you.”

CHAPTER 24

MYOME

Itook a deep breath and shook my hands out. The blinking red light on my phone had me feeling a tiny bit queasy. Steven had announced my phone call at least a minute ago and I still hadn’t picked it up. I needed to. I squared my shoulders, cleared my throat, and plucked up the phone.

“Myome speaking.”

“Myome!” Bino halfway screamed. “What do I owe the pleasure of your assistant calling me not once but twice?”

“I need a favor.”

“Right.” Bino chuckled. “I mean, that’s what we do. You and Drix scratch my back and I scratch yours. What do you need?”

“Our label is holding a fundraiser for a women’s shelter and I was wondering if you’d be interested in performing.”
