“I was joking.” He grabbed my face in both hands and tilted it back. “It was a joke,” he repeated. “You ain’t got to worry about any of that shit.”

“Yeah because you know I’ll beat y’all both the fuck up.”

Drix chuckled while he leaned down to kiss me.

“Nah, because I love yo’ lil crazy ass.”

“I love you too.” I looked up at him and exhaled. “And that’s why I want to talk to you about my album.”

“Alright.” His hands fell away from my face and he gripped my waist. “What’s up with your album? You want to take this in the office?”

“No. It’s not that serious,” I said quickly. “I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been in the studio working on it… with another producer.”

“Alright.” He nodded.

“So you’re not upset?” I asked slowly.

“Why would I be upset, Twin?”

“Because you’re a living fucking legend and I’m outsourcing.”

He snickered and shook his head.

“Nah. I know what I do and I know I wasn’t going to produce every song you ever put out for the rest of your life. That’s cool. It’s your album, and while I’d be honored to help you out, I don’t just expect to produce the whole fucking project. Myome, you were making music when I met you and I’dnever,”—he stressed the word—“ever try to come between you and your creativity, vision, or music, just like I know you wouldn’t try to come between me and mine.”

I exhaled and let my head fall forward against his chest. He massaged the back of my head.

“Thank you,” I said into his shirt then lifted my head again. “I thought you’d be mad.”

“Nah. I want your album to be everything you want it to be. You deserve that.” He smiled and I poked my lip out, which just made his smile widen.

“You’re perfect. I love you.”

“I love you too.” He tapped me on my ass and we both reached for our phones when they rang at the same time.

“What’s up?” Drix answered immediately.

My eyebrows knitted together when I saw it was my mom and I took a step back before I answered.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Myome. This is your mother.”

“Yeah. What’s up, Mom?”

“I know it’s a little last minute but I was hoping we could maybe get together for a late lunch.”

“Right now?”

“If possible.”

“Uh, sure. Just text me and let me know where and I’ll meet you.”

“Okay. I can’t wait to see you.”

“Yeah. Me too.” I ended the call and glanced at Drix.

“Everything okay?”
