I smiled as I hung up and made another call immediately after.
“Hello?”
“I’m going to send you an address in an hour and I want you to knock my mother-in-law’s wig off.”
“Are you serious, Berlin?”
“I’m very serious. She got Myome crying and shit and I don’t like it and I warned her ass, so fuck it. Those who don’t hear must feel. She need hands put on her. You gon’ come through for your boy or what?”
“She made Myome cry?” she asked for clarification.
“Yeah.”
“Okay then.”
“You’ll be ready?”
“I’ll be ready.”
“See you in an hour.”
“Okay. Love you.”
“Love you.”
I hung up, pocketed my phone, and headed back into the small room where Merch and Rome were answering questions on the podcast. A man rushed over when he caught sight of me and put my microphone back on.
The interview went well. Merch and Rome were asked some pretty good questions and I got the chance to plug my future album and some of my artists throughout.
When we finished, I tapped Rome as soon as we walked out of the building.
“You want to ride with me?”
“For some bullshit?”
“You already know.”
He chuckled and shook his head but ultimately shrugged.
“Yeah, man. Let’s do it. I got you.”
“Let’s go then.”
Rome made sure his car was locked then hopped in my ride. I sent the address off while we were on our way.
When we got there, Rome did a double take then laughed when he saw my reinforcements had already arrived. I stopped my car at the curb and hopped out without cutting the engine. I walked straight to the front door of Myome’s old family home and banged on the door like I was the police.
“Coming!” Myome’s mom yelled and I covered the peephole with my finger.
It was quiet for a few minutes then the door flew open
“What? Can you—” She froze as she realized who it was but she didn’t get a chance to tell me anything crazy before my mom started whooping her ass.
I hadn’t just gotten my violent streak from nowhere. My mama didn’t fucking play. When I’d said my mom would beat up Myome’s before, I hadn’t said that shit because it was funny. I’d said it because I meant it. It wasn’t often that she fought, but when she did, she did what needed to be done.
I watched while my mom slung Myome’s mom off the stairs and to the ground before she started punching her in the mouth. They fumbled slightly, with both of them trying to get the upper hand.
“Come on, Ma. Put some anger behind that shit!” Rome yelled.
