“It went. I’ll deal with her when the time comes.” Rose tried to walk around her, but Minx stepped right into his path and tilted her head.

“What the hell is that, Rose? Is she pregnant or not?” she questioned, brows dipping in irritation.

“She says she is,” he responded, shrugging helplessly.

“You haven’t been back in town a month. How the hell would she know if she was pregnant or not by you?” Minx asked, hands falling on her hips.

She watched his eyes fall on the ground. He was keeping something from her, and her heart raced at the thought of him lying to her or another bitch knowing some shit about him that she didn’t. Minx didn’t want Nadia or any other hoe to have that kind of power.

“She came to see me... about two months ago… when I was still in Miami,” Rose conveyed, and Minx felt like someone had uppercut her in the gut.

She let out a shaky breath and looked him up and down.

“Right, of course she did. She’s Nadia. She gets access to you whenever, wherever.” Attitude seeped into her tone as she thought about what all this meant.

“Aye, don’t be like that.” Rose shook his head, both thick brows furrowing at her shift in mood. “That’s why I didn’t want to say shit.”

“You didn’t want to say shit because you know you fucked up!” Minx called him out.

“This shit happened before shit between us even became what it is, Minx,” he argued.

“I don’t care! You were just going to come up in here and try to finesse me into forgetting about it though, right?” She sneered , rage bubbling in her veins, making her hot all over.

“You overreacting,” he pointed out, backing away and retreating to his kitchen.

Minx wasn’t about to let him off. He had her fucked up. The shit wasn’t going away, but she would if things didn’t sway in her favor. She wasn’t about to play the background to Rose, Nadia, and a fucking baby. She had to draw the line somewhere, whether she loved him or not.

“I’m not fucking overreacting. Nadia ain’t some random bitch. She’s been in your life since you were fifteen fucking years old. How the fuck am I supposed to feel about you possibly having a baby with her?” Minx was heated, and it was all in the way her warm eyes turned cold when she spoke.

Rose sighed and paused at his fridge after pulling out a cold brew. He needed something else to ease his mind since she was determined to be turned up right now. Was she wrong to feel how she felt? Not at all. He had enough on his plate right now, and he didn’t want to get caught up in some argument with her that took away from the place they were in.

“Minx, ain’t shit between me and Nadia but sex,” he revealed, and she paused with her jaw parted and gaped back at him.

That wasn’t exactly what she wanted to fucking hear.

“That makes me feel so much better, Rose. Thank you!”

“And that’s all that is there.” He insisted, growing exasperated with her. “And that shit ain’t even true anymore. She was familiar, and… I let her in. I did. I talked to her about shit here and there,” he explained.

“Like you talk about stuff with me?” Minx asked, eyes misting and heart cracking a little at his words.

Rose swallowed some of his beer and set the bottle on the counter. He locked eyes with her, and for a minute, he didn’t say anything. He let his head hang low before shifting it back and forth in disbelief.

“All this time, and you still doubt a nigga, don’t you?” he queried, masking the evident hurt.

Minx couldn’t understand the kind of burden that Rose carried and always had. Yes, her family had taken him in, and he was grateful as fuck for it all these years. The fact that she still questioned him on her place in his life made him feel as if he couldn’t do enough to please her. Maybe he never could.

“How can I not doubt you when every time I turn around, you end up with her? She gets to come visit you when you are away. She’s the first person you see when you step foot back in town, not me.” Minx was being a brat, but she didn’t care.

She threw her arms up, and her body trembled from working herself up. She knew Rose could never care for anyone the way that he did her. It didn’t stop her from feeling threatened, especially when it came to their history. With his back still against the counter, Rose brought both hands up, bracing himself. He saw how upset she was, but Minx could get like that sometimes. He knew he had to let her rant and then he would calm her ass down.

“You hold all of my secrets, Minx. Not Nadia. She can never make me feel the way you do because she ain’t you.” He lifted both shoulders and spoke simply. “Ain’t no hidden shit that you’re missing or nothing like that. I couldn’t be with you the way I wanted to be in the beginning. You were young, and I valued my life. Max would’ve killed me if I tried anything with you. Nadia was there, and I was young and dumb. I was just trying to get some pussy.” He took a couple of steps toward her. “Shit with us is different. It’s intimate. It’s more than sex, and that shit is even better because of who you are and what I feel for you.” Towering over her, his brooding eyes linked with hers, and Minx’s breath caught in her chest.

“Minx, you live in a nigga’s soul, shorty. I need you to know that.”

She bit nervously into her bottom lip while her eyes misted, and sniffled back tears like a big ass baby. Rose reached out, thumbing away her tears, holding her loving gaze. He knelt over, meshing his lips into hers gently at first. Grabbing his arms, she held on to him as their tongues danced and Rose deepened the kiss.

“Mmm…” Minx moaned into his mouth, clinging to him like a needy child.
