MORGAN

“Do it,”she whispers in my ear.

I swallow down the second shot of whiskey and face my best friend. “I shouldn’t.”

Quinn rolls her big brown eyes. “It’s your last night before you move. Haven’t you ever wanted to walk the line just once?”

She places her straw between her lips, sucking on it while staring at me expectantly.

I’ve wanted to walk the line, the imaginary line between good and bad, for so long, but never found the courage. This would be my best chance. No repercussions or hazing at work.

My attention falls back to the handsome biker. His cut is different from the local club, telling me he’s just passing through. He drew my attention as soon we walked into the bar.

I bite down on my lip, tempted like hell. There’s no way it could ever get back to my captain or my dad.

“Do it or I’ll send Greg that ‌nude.”

Gasping, I turn back to her. “You wouldn’t.” Threatening to break the no-contact rule on the forbidden no-good ex is a low blow.

Fuck Greg. Greg can die. And I hate wishing ill on others.

Her dark eyebrows shoot up. “I would for the sake of your lonely pussy. It’s growing cobwebs, Morgan. Ever since you graduated from the academy, it’s like you’ve become a nun.”

I sigh. “I know. I know that, okay? It was just a little hard to date when I was busy proving myself tenfold because I have a pair of tits.”

Pair of tits, and that they think I was given a leg up because my father is chief deputy. It never made sense to me because I purposely moved to another state to avoid those assumptions.

She snorts, shaking her head as her tight-coiled hair bounces past her shoulders. “Babes, you know I’m so proud of you, but I don’t know how you do it, proving yourself for a squad that doesn’t give half a shit about the job like you do.”

There’s a flicker of camaraderie to defend my fellow police officers, but she’s not wrong.

It’s also part of the reason I’m moving back home, if you can call it that, hoping to find some of that inspiration I used to have when admiring my father and his station. “Collins isn’t bad.”

She smiles. “He’s not, but he’s as much of an outcast as you are. The difference is that he has a penis, so he’d still be picked first.”

Cheers ring out in the corner, and we both turn to watch the ease of the bikers. The one that caught my eye is collecting money from around the pool table with a sexy smirk on his lips.

I squint, studying his sturdy frame and how his jeans perfectly mold to his legs, as well as the T-shirt snug on his tattooed biceps under his cut. I know a pool shark when I see one.

“Oh no,” Quinn whispers.

“What?”

“You’ve got your Nancy Drew look on.”

I snort. “Nancy Drew, really?”

She shrugs. “The classics never get old, and you knewexactlywhat I was referencing.”

Shaking my head, I blow out a breath and glance down at my shirt, pulling it down a bit to show off the girls. I fluff my dark hair up a little, knowing my natural wave leaves a little to be desired.

Quinn chokes on her drink for a second. “Oh god. It’s happening. Yes!” She catches my arm and brings our faces closer so we’re staring straight into each other’s souls. “You are a hot ass bitch and if he doesn’t get you off before trying to come himself, toss him to the side.”

I pull away from her with a chuckle. “Maybe I’m into mediocre dick?”

She scowls, calling out as I walk away from her. “Why be into something so freely given?”
