“Yea. Well, what if I want her to stick around?”

“Then I’d say you’re crazy, but it wouldn’t be far from the truth. I just hope that no one ends up dead behind your bullshit.”

“That’s dragging it, but I just needed to get that off my chest.” I told her.

“You the one that’s gonna have to deal with it when you get asked the tough questions. Be ready for it, and I hope you know how to move then.”

“I got this, Kendra. Don’t trip.” We spoke for about ten more minutes while I gave Koi enough time to enjoy her peace.

By the time I finished smoking my cigar, I had done some thinking. My wife and I were what we were, but the shit wasn’t going any further than I had wanted or liked. She was important, and I loved her, but I didn’t like where we were standing at the moment.

It could be the fact that I was intrigued by Koi and didn’t want to sever ties with her, but something was gonna have to give. It was starting to look and feel like I was about to just live in the moment, and what happened, just did.

My past relationships before my wife were cool, but them hoes wanted my money more than they wanted me. I built myself up and had my friend by my side, so it was a no brainer when we got to the point of marriage because why not? Years later, I was now standing outside of the hotel asking, ‘Why me?’ Was this what I wanted out of a relationship?

“Hey,” I stepped off the elevator, coming face to face with Koi. She was dressed in my robe, a champagne flute in her hand, her eyes inviting.

“Wassup? I know I took long, but I got you a new room and all your stuff is inside.”

“Really? You didn’t have to do that. I was gonna go and raise hell.”

“That was the whole reason I didn’t want you to do it. How are you feeling?” I grabbed the bottle of champagne, pouring me a glass before taking a gulp.

“I’m feeling better, but I’d feel great if you let me treat you to dinner. I have to repay you for everything.”

Insulted, I raised my brow. “I’m a man. That’s what I do. I treat the woman I’m interested in well. Don’t do that. Besides, as an independent woman, I want you to rest. Let me handle it.”

“Okay. So, I gotta let you lead?” She chuckled. When I didn’t return the laughter, she tightened up. Well, dinner.” She held up her arms. “Do you wanna get a bite to eat?”

“What I want to eat is-”

“I’m hungry,” she said quickly. “Shid, I can feed you dessert, but I need some food in my stomach.”

“I got something I can put in your stomach.”

“Roman,” she giggled. “Are you always this outspoken?”

“Baby girl, I’m forty six. I do not have time to play little boy games.”

“I hear you. Well, I gotta go get dressed and then meet you for dinner.”

“It’s Friday, stay the night, we can order in.”

“I agree, it is Friday. We can order in, but I don’t know about staying the night.” She was avoiding me. I wasn’t new to it, but I figured this was all new to her, so I braced myself.

“I’ll take it,” I told her, pulling her into my arms.

“Why are-?” I stopped her.

“Let it flow, baby girl. Let it all just flow.”

For hours we kicked it, talked shit, and listened to old school R&B. Koi’s phone was ringing nonstop until she completely shut it off. Did I want to notice it? Nah. But the light couldn’t be missed, and it somehow had me think back to the time I was being cheated on. Almost immediately, my jaw clenched until I realized we were not a couple, and she was in the midst of a horrible breakup. What we were sharing was fun.

Koi must have felt my energy shift. She laid her head back on my bare chest, holding my hand as she hummed the words to “These Are the Times” by Dru Hill. I was lost in my thoughts while she was probably deep in her own.

While sex would have completed the evening, getting to know her was better than I had expected. She was younger than me, but her drive was sexy as fuck. A failed long term relationship had landed her in a state of confusion. I didn’t want to sound like the typical nigga who would just fuck her and move along, but she was a gem. Her aura and energy were inviting and not too heavy. Koi relaxed on my chest when I realized she had dozed off.

I laid my head back, closing my eyes as well.
