“In a minute.”
“You’ll hear no argument from me,” I mutter, kissing the top of her head. I’m enjoying having her in my arms.
Eventually, we get up, and I make good on my promise to carry her into the bathroom so we can clean up. We climb back into bed, and I pull her into my arms again, so her head is resting on my chest. I run a hand down her back. I can’t stop touching her. It’s like I need to be close to her to be able to breathe. And maybe I do.
“If you need to go so you can spend time with Hazel, I totally understand. You haven’t seen her in a few days. I’m sure you miss her,” she whispers.
I smile. I love that she worries about that.
“I will in a little while. Hadley said she didn’t mind babysitting Hazel for a bit longer. I don’t know what I would do without her.”
She lifts her head off my chest and meets my gaze. “Are you planning—I mean what’s your plan for—wait, never mind, it’s none of my business.”
“Yes, it is. You’re my girlfriend. Of course it’s your business.”
“I like you calling me your girlfriend, boyfriend.”
“Fuck, Sweetheart. I like it too.”
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of hearing her call me her boyfriend.
A few months ago, I didn’t want to be anyone’s boyfriend ever again, but now, I’m glad to be hers. I want to be the last boyfriend she has.
I swallow, my heart skipping a beat at that thought. Strangely, I’m not panicking about it.
“I don’t know what my plan is with Hazel for after this season. I can’t exactly ask Hadley to give up her life and move here to take care of my daughter. She’d do it, but it wouldn’t be fair to her.” I blow out a breath. “I don’t want Hazel to be raised by a nanny. My parents said they’d come down and stay for a while but I hate to ask that of them. Caleb and Jenna offered to help, too. And Aubrey. And Madison.”
“And me. Don’t forget you’ve got me.” Becca leans over and kisses me. “You’ve got a village of people on your side.”
“I know. Oh, speaking of which, girlfriend. You’re coming with me to Brody’s wedding in two weeks. Right?”
“If it’s alright with them.”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine, but I’ll text him later and make sure.”
She kisses me again, but this time when she goes to pull away, I don’t let her.
“How about another round?” I shift my hips so she can feel how hard I am. “Then I should probably go home, but maybe you can come over for dinner and a movie tonight.”
“I’d like that,” Becca says as I roll us over so she’s on top.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d end up here.
With her.
Like this.
But I wouldn’t change a thing.
Chapter thirty-four
Rebecca
It’s the day of Coach Thompson’s wedding, and I’ve spent most of the morning getting ready. I’ve never been to a professional athlete’s—albeit retired—wedding, and I’m hoping I’m dressed appropriately.
I liked this dress because it’s mid-calf, so I won’t trip on the hem, but it’s also long enough that I don’t have to worry about accidentally mooning someone if I bend over, or a breeze kicks up. I love that the front covers everything—so, again, I don’t have to worry about accidentally flashing another guest—but it’s backless. Serious in the front, party in the back? Or however the saying goes.
I sent Sutton, Madison, and Hadley pictures of it when I was trying it on, and they all said it was perfect for the wedding. I hope they’re right.
