I chuckled. “I think that’s what happens when fate intervenes.”

“Hmm?”

I glanced back over my shoulder at him and met his gaze. “I love you, too.”

He smiled, then kissed me. “I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“Me neither.”

“Nap or chat until my knot goes down?”

I yawned. “I think nap. The fate-sickness wiped me out.”

He kissed my shoulder, then nodded. “Good choice.”

He managed to pull a blanket over us, then I relaxed in his arms.

It had taken time, but I was finally where I was meant to be.

Chapter 12 - Brent

I sat on my balcony, sipping my coffee and watching the shifting colors and shadows as dawn light spilled over Harris Cove’s eastern wall.

It was amazing how much life could change in two weeks.

Part of me was surprised that it had only been two weeks since that morning on the beach—a morning that had started just the same.

But instead of preparing to go to the beach, I was taking a break from making love to my new mate. And it wouldn’t be a long break if the prior evening was anything to go by. I’d knotted him several times by dinner, and a couple more between dinner and when we finally went to bed.

Being with him… bonding him… it had been the best night of my life.

And finding him tucked against my chest, breathing my scent in his sleep, had been the best way to wake up.

It made me think of the future, and all we had to look forward to. Maybe a small wedding ceremony and reception to make everything legal. Then kids…

I smiled as I thought about how many times I’d spilled into him. With any luck, he was already pregnant.

The glass door slid open behind me.

“Brr,” Adam said as he stepped onto the patio. “It’s chilly out here.”

“It normally is this time of day,” I replied, then I glanced up at him. He was almost swimming in my bathrobe, but I liked knowing that he was wrapping himself in my clothes.

“Come here,” I said, offering a hand. “I think the chair will support both of us.”

He smiled as I set aside my coffee and opened my arms for him. Then he was on my lap and settling into my embrace.

I kissed his hair. “Do we want to head to your hotel today and get your things, or are we putting that off until tomorrow?”

“I think tomorrow,” he murmured. “I want to spend another day of it being just us.”

“Works for me.”

He hummed and curled against me.

“How are you feeling?” I asked after a moment.

He chuckled. “Weird. The nervous energy is gone, and my instincts seem to be settling, but I’m not back to normal.”
