“For now. But I’m telling you, Mama, you’re gonna be the death of me.”

“Dramatic.”

“You planned that.”

She lowers the bottle, all fake innocence. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Bullshit.”

She slides her sunglasses on and nods toward the windshield. “Now stop driving like someone’s abuela. We have somewhere to be.”

I glance at her. “You can’t do all that and expect me to just carry on like nothing happened.”

“You’re the one who said you could handle anything.”

“Yeah, well.” I tighten my grip on the wheel and look back at the road. “Apparently, that came with terms and conditions.”

“That sounds like an another you problem.”

Her lips part when she realizes what slipped out.

My grin comes back slow. “What did you call me?”

“I said drive.”

“There was another word in there.”

“Not sure what you’re talking about, I think you lost too much oxygen. You’re confused.”

“Say it again.”

“Get us to Miami, cabrón.”

“Nah, that’s not the word you just said.”

“Well, that’s all you’re getting.”

She turns the music up loud enough to end the conversation, but not fast enough to hide the smile pulling at her mouth.

Yep. Definitely more than community service.

She fucking wants me.

Winning.
