Fathom leaned back in his chair.

“She went through a lot of trouble to keep us alive.”

“That doesn’t mean we trust her,” Sniper said.

“No,” Rook agreed. “It means we find her.”

“And ask her nicely?” Sniper asked.

Rook looked at the sword engraved into the silver coin.

“I haven’t decided.”

A cold draft moved through the warehouse.

The six photographs on the memorial table stood beneath the solitary light.

Seven suspects filled the screens across the room.

Six dead brothers.

Seven possible traitors.

Three survivors.

Rook looked from the faces of the men they had lost to the people who might have killed them.

The warehouse no longer felt empty.

It felt like the beginning of something.

Something the people behind the mountain would never see coming.

“What do we call this?” Fathom asked.

Rook glanced at him. “What?”

“This operation. We can’t keep referring to it as the warehouse.”

Sniper looked around. “Why not?”

“Because it sounds like we work in shipping.”

“We’re beside a harbor.”

“That doesn’t help.”

Rook’s gaze returned to the memorial table.

Their former unit was gone.

Their records were being erased.

Their own government had stopped searching for them.

They were shadows now.

Men without names.
