Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The mountains swallowed every sound.

Rook listened.

No voices.

No radio chatter.

No footsteps.

No generators.

No dogs.

Not even the distant hum of a vehicle.

The compound sat beneath the moonless sky like a tomb.

Ghost glanced back at them.

“You hear that?”

Hammer frowned. “Hear what?”

“Exactly.”

That got everyone’s attention.

Ghost almost never spoke during an operation. When he did, people listened.

Behind Rook, Fathom studied his screen.

His brow furrowed.

Then his fingers began moving.

Zooming.

Searching.

Checking.

Again and again.

Rook stepped closer. “What do you see?”

“I don’t know.”

Every man nearby turned toward him.

The answer was almost impossible.

Michael Sarrilla always knew.

That was why they called him Fathom. He saw what other people missed and found the danger before the danger found them.
