She hadn’t moved from his lap. Most misses would scamper away.

Except, she was likely still startled.

Her breaths were rather short, and a kiss…

“Ten minutes or I leave without you,” the driver yelled, breaking the spell that had woven around Damian that may have led him down a path he should ignore.

Georgie scampered off his lap then reached for the door and pushed it open.

“Where are you going?”

“To use the necessary,” she answered before she jumped out.

“I am coming with you.”

“You do not need to.”

“I most certainly do.”

Georgie blew out a heavy sigh, one that he was used to hearing when she was irritated with him. “Nothing will happen to me in the few moments I will be gone.”

She marched forward and he followed.

“I will have you know that there is a taproom in that inn. Men are drinking their fill of ale and if they see a pretty miss out here all alone, they may get something in their mind that you would find very disagreeable.”

As he finished speaking the door at the back of the coaching inn opened and a man stepped out and when he saw Georgie he began to smile.

“Oh, very well,” she grumbled, then took his arm until they reached the structure set away from the building. “But please, do not stand so near,” she said right before she entered.

Damian ignored her and took up a stance just outside the door and glared at the man.

*

Oh, she hated being vulnerable, but she was.

When that man smiled at her, Georgie had a very good idea that he might approach and likely make an improper offer, that would have been soundly rejected, but then what would he have done? If he were deep in his cups, nearly anything could have happened.

Thank goodness that Damian had ignored her and accompanied her to the necessary.

It also was the distraction she needed from what had happened in the mail coach.

She had nearly kissed him.

Georgie had waited and hoped that Damian would kiss her, but he had only looked at her eyes, then at her lips, and back into her eyes and she was about to kiss him when the driver yelled out.

Thank goodness that he had or she may have made the worst mistake of her life.

Well, not the worst, because she had already done that, but she most certainly would have been rejected by Damian and then what remained of their adventure would be too uncomfortable to endure and she would be forced to live with an embarrassment that she would likely never forget.

They still had a few moments when they returned to the coach and Georgie decided that she would remain outside until it was time to leave.

“I just hope we do not get killed before we reach the next stop,” Damian grumbled.

“That had been rather frightening.”

“Mail coaches are required to keep a schedule, but I don’t think they are allowed to risk the coach in the process. Such would likely see the driver sacked.”

When the driver was getting ready to climb back onto his seat, Georgie entered and settled in the place she always occupied.
