“Of you demure in lingerie. You’ll hide your face, but it’s important to show the potential buyers what they’ll be purchasing.”

Made sense. Also made me want to puke.

“Are you on birth control?”

“Yes.” It helped with my cramps. “But wouldn’t they wear a condom?”

She sighed. “There’s more money if you are willing to go bare. Men don’t pay thousands and want to wear a condom. They’re required to provide recent medical paperwork, ensuring they are disease-free. Anyhow, think about it and tell me your answer tomorrow. Escorting will pay you more than stripping, but the real short-term money is in the hymen.”

The money is in the hymen. Damn. Who would’ve thought?

“What’s up, buttercup? Why you so quiet?” Teagan asked as she drove us from McDonald’s to our apartment after a long night in the club.

“Just thinking. How was your first time?”

Her brows jumped up. “First time with what? Sex?”

“Yeah. How was losing your virginity?”

“Lousy. The first time is way overrated. I don’t think sex became enjoyable until the third time maybe. Of course, it helps to have a man know what he’s doing.”

This was a common theme among my friends. First times were not like they were in books or movies. Instead, they were awkward and painful.

“Why? You didn’t meet anyone while I was gone, did you?”

Teagan was aware of my V card. “No. I didn’t meet anyone.” Fantasizing about my boss didn’t count.

“Then why are you asking?”

I half shrugged, not sure I could tell her. “I’m curious.”

But Teagan was on to me by the next night when she saw me come out of Myra’s office.

“Please tell me you’re not considering doing what I think you are.”

“Fine. I won’t tell you.”

She huffed, taking my arm and leading me to a hall where it was semiprivate. “Why? Why now?”

“I could pay off everything in one night. Wouldn’t you do it?” I proceeded to tell her about the auction.

Her lips pinched together. “I worry about you.”

“I worry about you. What will you do if I’m no longer with you on the weekends?” I hated leaving her alone going forward.

“Chloe Bear, I did this for months before I met you. I’ll be fine. You need to do what’s best for you. Please know I always understand that.”

“Thank you.” Her support meant the world. Not many people understood my desperation to help my family as much as Teagan did.

“I have to say it, and don’t shoot me for it. But what if the highest bidder is into some sick shit?”

My stomach churned. “I know. But Myra said they screen these guys.”

Teagan scoffed. “Screen them to ensure they have the money. When is it?”

“Friday night. I have the doctor’s exam scheduled, then need to do the photographs.”
