“Dinner. Italian subs and chips. It’s not fancy.”

“It’s perfect. Come here.” I patted my lap, wanting badly for her to straddle it.

She quirked a perfectly arched brow. “Nope. I’m heading to the shower with some very naughty thoughts in mind. I think it’s time you joined me.”

She didn’t give me a chance to respond but simply stood up and twisted her hair into a simple bun. Then she slipped out of her flats and unzipped her side zipper slowly before peeling off her dress. Jesus, I forgot to breathe for a moment. She was exquisite in her ivory, matching set of lingerie.

She flashed me a small smile before walking down my hallway where she stopped briefly to unhook and drop her bra. After looking over her shoulder to ensure I was tracking her, she disappeared into the bedroom. Her hand emerged, dropping her thong as one last step to her strip tease.

The action had me groaning out loud. Fuck. She’d issued a challenge. The sound of running water reached my ears while my heart hammered against my chest.

I pondered my options. Sit on the couch like a fool with an erection or get into the shower with a beautiful woman.

A no-brainer before I’d lost my leg. Why did it have to be so complicated now? I cursed out loud. Perhaps it was time to rip off the bandage, and let her see me, scars and all. Maybe she’d then recognize how bad it really was.

I moved slowly, down the hall, through the master bedroom, and into my bathroom. The hot water steamed up the mirror and the glass shower stall, allowing me only peeks of her delicious body.

Bracing my weight against the counter, I took off my trousers first and then the prosthesis. The sleeve came next. Then my boxers and T-shirt. I took a deep breath before hopping the two steps to the shower. The door was soundless when I opened it. I noticed she was faced away from me and appreciated how she was letting me ease into this.

I shut the door behind me, using the metal shower rail for balance as I moved behind her. One hand held the rail while the other slid down the curve of her hip. My lips landed on the smooth, exposed skin at the back of her neck. I enjoyed the way she sighed with contentment over the contact.

“I missed you,” she whispered quietly.

“I missed you, too, sunshine.”

She turned around slowly, her beautiful eyes locked on mine. I held my breath, waiting for her to glance down. Bracing for her reaction.

Instead, she put her hands on either side of my face. “Where am I looking right now?”

“At my eyes,” I answered thickly.

“They’re the most incredible shade of blue. I remember them from the first day we met.”

The corner of my mouth ticked up. “I remember trying not to laugh at the fact you called Tom a pussy. I had to get up and face the window.”

Her giggle filled the tiled space. “I didn’t have a clue. I was so nervous.” Her hand rubbed the side of my face. “Did you think I was pretty?”

“Stunning. Same as you are now.”

“Less clothing this time around.”

“You say that as if it’s a bad thing.” She’d done it. She’d made me forget about any awkwardness, made me lose some of my self-consciousness. “Tell me. What were these ideas you were having about my beard?”

“Hm. I wanted to know how it would feel buried between my legs.”

Fuck. Her growing sexual confidence was such a turn-on. “Only one way to find out.”

She grinned. “Soon. But first, this.” Her hands left my face and slid down my chest, but her eyes didn’t leave mine. Her hands then went to my shoulders and down my sides, then over my hips and down until she was gripping my ass.

I took a deep breath, thinking it was now or never. “You want me to turn around? You can wash my back.”

Chapter Thirty-Two

Chloe

I stood completely still, letting the magnitude of his offer sink in. “Are you sure?”

“Yes. It’s time. If you think you’re ready. If you’re not, I’d understand.”
