“So you took the moment when it presented itself.”

“Yes. She indicated she wanted to talk to me alone, so I planned it out, knowing exactly what she had in mind. The moment we were alone, I sent him a text. I told her to prove to me how much she wanted me.” The thought made me sick. I’d been so intent on exposing her I hadn’t thought beyond the proof. “I didn’t actually do it. Not as if it mattered. Reid saw what she was willing to do.”

“For what it’s worth, I believe it matters. You weren’t the cheating brother going behind his back to have an affair. You were a brother trying to prove he was engaged to a cheater.”

“I hurt him.” I’d excused it a hundred different ways, but what it came down to was how I’d made him feel. “As you described, I thought the ends justified the means. And now I don’t have a clue how to make it better.”

“I think you start by acknowledging how you made him feel. If he loves my sister the way you say he does—”

“He does. One hundred percent. He’s over Vanessa.”

“Then he understands it was for the best. But he certainly doesn’t want to hear it. Not from you.”

“Then what do I say?”

“You say you’re sorry. And you mean it. Like you did today with me. Maybe you can have that conversation when they visit.”

“Perhaps.” I was lost in my internal thoughts about how to approach such a conversation when she broke through.

“Let’s add post-sex talks to the items you are not so great at.”

My chuckle filled the room, and I flipped her onto her back. “First I struggle with phone sex, and now this. There goes all of my cred.”

Her giggle was something I could listen to forever.

“Don’t worry. I won’t reveal your secrets.”

I jumped out of bed and took her hand. “Come on. I have plans for you and a bar of honey soap in my shower.”
