Chapter Forty-One
Chance
Tory opened and closed her mouth. I’d apparently rendered her speechless. Though I hadn’t originally planned to bring her with me, I could now think of nothing I’d like better.
“Penny and Mona can come too. I have a function tonight and would like you to accompany me.”
“What kind of function?” The way she frowned told me she was already doubtful.
“It’s a gala.” I typically didn’t bring a date to events, opting instead to leave myself a choice of women to go home with. But tonight I wanted Tory on my arm.
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not a gala kind of girl.”
“You’re as much of a gala girl as I am a gala guy.”
“I don’t have a dress, and I wouldn’t know how to act.”
“Act like you’re crazy about me.”
She shoved at my chest. “I’m being serious.”
Yes she was. Dammit. I hadn’t meant to feed into her vulnerability. Time to sweeten the deal. “How about we do a spa day for you, Penny, and Mona? You three can have a full girls’ day right there in the penthouse. I’ll tell the attendants to wear masks to protect Penelope.”
“Why do you want me to go with you?”
A glib answer wouldn’t do. She was much too intense about her whys. “Because I’d like you to be there with me. Show you my club in Vegas and my condo there.”
“You don’t get denied a lot, do you?”
A smile played on my lips. “I’m denying myself right now. If I wasn’t, your ass would be up on the shelf and my tongue between your legs to see if you still taste like me.”
She inhaled sharply, her gaze thick with arousal.
“Keep looking at me like that, and I’ll drag you to my room without a thought to our audience witnessing my caveman ways.”
We both jumped when the pantry door swung open.
Mona stood there with a grin. “There you two are. Be a dear, Chance, and hand me the coffee tin up on the top shelf.”
I reached up and handed her the container as if there were nothing unusual about the two of us hiding in the pantry.
Acting like I was her personal pantry concierge, Mona smiled. “Thank you. Carry on.” She shut the door behind her.
We both burst into laughter.
“I don’t think Mona was surprised to see us in here,” Tory said.
I shook my head. “Nothing has ever gotten past that woman. Let me go ensure she’s on board for coming to Vegas with us.”
