Damn, his attorney bio picture from the firm website was a good one. “Yep, it sure is.”
Both Kelsey and Tory shared a look and grinned. Tory quipped, “You never mentioned he was quite this handsome.”
“Who’s quite so handsome?” came Chance’s voice as he entered the room. His brow was raised over hearing his girlfriend refer to someone other than him as attractive.
She laughed, getting up to give him a peck on the lips. He promptly turned the peck into a sizzling kiss.
The PDA had both Kelsey and me groaning. But secretly, it was nice to see two people so crazy about one another.
“Jesus, get a room, you two.” Kelsey was currently staying with them, so I imagined she witnessed more than her share of their canoodling.
Chance chuckled. “I might need to make use of one right now if my girlfriend is talking about other men.”
Tory rolled her eyes. “We were talking about Daisy’s new boss. It turns out he’s Caleb Morrison.”
Chance’s brow rose again as recognition dawned in his face. “The attorney?”
“Yes. I’m temping for him at the law firm for five more weeks.”
Chance threw his arm around Tory. They made such an attractive couple it was hard not to stare. “Interesting. You planning to seduce your boss like my girlfriend seduced hers?”
Tory scoffed. “I did not seduce you. In fact, I believe I hated you at first sight.”
He chuckled. “I don’t recall that part. Must have a selective memory.”
“I’m not out to seduce anyone, let alone my boss. For the record, he might be easy on the eyes, but I’m not attracted to him.”
“Your blush says differently,” Tory said, smirking.
I had hoped no one would notice the evidence of my lie creeping up my neck. “Fine, he’s handsome.” If you couldn’t be honest with your best friends, who could you be honest with? “But if the woman in the car with him when we first met was any indication of his taste, let’s just say I am not it.”
“His girlfriend?” Kelsey inquired.
“He told me she wasn’t, but I don’t know.”
“Wait, he made a point to tell you the woman he was driving into the office with wasn’t his girlfriend?” Tory added.
Chance kissed the top of her head and grinned. “Ladies, clearly that is my cue to leave. Is Penny already down for the night?”
I loved the way he inquired after Tory’s daughter. It was clear the man was as smitten with the little girl as he was with Tory.
“She’s sleeping soundly.” Tory pointed to the monitor.
“I’ll give her a quick kiss good night and see you soon.”
Damn, the promising look he gave her made me blush.
For her part, Kelsey muttered, “I’m glad I’m driving you home tonight, Daisy, so these two can have some privacy in the house.”
Yet we both sighed at the dreamy expression on Tory’s face when she sat back down for her makeup. It made you believe true love was possible.
Unfortunately, the interlude with Chance did not deter her from her line of questioning. “Okay, back to your hot boss. When did he make the point he didn’t have a girlfriend?”
“After she was rude about Toby on the morning of the accident. I’m sure he clarified in order to separate himself from her behavior, not to leave the door open. So yes, he’s hot, but definitely not my type.” It was bad enough Doris was trying to matchmake. I didn’t need my two best friends doing it too. “I’ll finish the temp job and never see him again. So speaking of jobs, what is this potential new assignment you’re thinking about, Kelsey?”
Her entire face lit up making it obvious she was excited about the prospect. “It’s a consulting assignment with one of Chance’s business associates. He’s looking for someone to come in and do an audit at a tech firm in San Diego. It’ll be a fairly long assignment.”
“You’ll do an amazing job and then be in demand. Watch.”
