“Sorted.”

She rolls her eyes as if I just said the most obnoxious thing in the world. What did I do? I simply said “sorted”.

Clover dutifully flips to the correct section of her notes.

“Okay, this is our question. Is monogamy the correct choice for the modern era? Explain your reasoning. So… what side are we on?”

Her eyes meet mine and I don’t know if it’s her angry face making me nervous or something else. I don’t want her to know what I did to her, but there’s no chance she’ll discover it now, so it isn’t that. We answer at the same time.

“Monogamy.”

We both seem surprised at the other person’s answer. Seriously? Hasn’t she already fucked two guys? Clover doesn’t strike me as the monogamous type and she’s gawking at me as if she’s thinking the same thing, which is rather offensive.

Clover doesn’t appear to give a damn about propriety. “Really? You? No offense but you look like a male hoe.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Seriously?”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“You fucked my roommate. And Jude Fox.”

Now she looks genuinely surprised.

“Is that what shrimp dick told you?”

I’ll assume ‘shrimp dick’ is Kit.

“How would you know his dick is tiny unless you saw it?”

“It’s not tiny,” Clover snaps. “I never said that. And just because I saw it doesn’t mean I had sex with him, not like it’s your damn business.”

Not tiny? Of course Kit’s tiny. I mean, compared to me he’s tiny and I don’t exactly have lots of experience with cocks. Not like I assume Clover does. Well, I suppose I did just assume it. We aren’t even talking about the assignment, but I don’t feel like being responsible.

“That still leaves Jude.”

“I didn’t fuck Jude either. We just kissed. He can’t… You know what. Nevermind. I’m not having this conversation with you. I don’t care if you’re Sylvia’s friend… I don’t like you.”

“You don’t like me? Why the hell not?”

“You held me down in the dining hall and helped your asshole friend strip me. Do I need another reason?”

She has several reasons, actually. But it’s my job to get through the next ten minutes without betraying myself or letting something even more stupid fall out of my mouth. Here goes nothing.

Chapter Ten

Clover

I know Thomas isn’t as infuriatingly stupid as he acts. His eyes are creepy, and very gray. I thought gray eyes were some kind of myth, but nope. They’re definitely real and they look almost clear, like glass. Thomas runs his hand over his sharp jawline. Why do all the assholes look like that? Ridiculously fucking hot.

“You don’t seem like the monogamy sort. That’s all.”

His annoyingly posh accent drips with judgment. I swear I could smack him right in that sharp jawline. Naturally, professor Greene gravitates towards forcing me to work with my worst enemy on this campus… Ugh. I’d even rather work with Juno and she just burned someone else in our dorm with her cigarette yesterday. Still, we’re in class, and at least here, I need to fight my urge to debate Thomas Bainbridge and come up with something dignified to say.

“You don’t know anything about me,” I snap. “And if I had to judge by your looks, I’d say you look more like a man whore than anyone else.”

Thomas has the most infuriating response. Smirking. Who actually smirks? Annoying dicks in your Ethics class, that’s who. Maybe I could get away with shoving my pen into his hand…

Unfortunately, he seems to sense my dark instincts as I flick my pen around, and Thomas shifts his hand slowly away from mine.
