Nessa

My job gave me the day off due to my car being stolen out of their parking lot. Even if they hadn’t, I was going to call out due to the stress. Placing my phone on my nightstand, I went to the bathroom to handle my hygiene. After I brushed my teeth, I completed my face routine before going back into my room. I checked to see if I’d gotten a call back or at least a text from Desmond but didn’t. That shit pissed me off as I made my way into the kitchen. As I fixed me some cereal, my phone buzzed on the counter.

Nas:

Nyla at school.

Me:

Thanks Nas.

Nas:

I told you I got you & I meant that Nessa.

Me:

Hopefully my car is found and I can pick her up.

Nas:

If not I’ll handle it.

Me:

Ok.

Placing my phone down, I couldn’t help but think how I didn’t believe Nas when he said he had me. Yesterday was the first time I’d ever expressed how I felt about Nas going away to anyone other than Yas. During his whole time away she’d been my comfort, my shoulder to cry on, my diary and most importantly my backbone. A part of me hates that I let that part of me slip around Nas. I’d been doing good with giving him the me I’d worked so hard to become. Last night that was the younger version of me getting her release. Trust it more of that inside of me but I’d felt some comfort of getting that out while he held me.

The way he was stepping up in my time of need had me considering taking his word, but it also shined a light that my nigga was MIA. Yesterday I blew up his phone trying to tell him what had happened and here it was the next day with no type of callback or nothing. First, he flakes on the dinner with Nas. Then, he tried to make that shit seem like wasn’t that important. Now, he can’t even be counted on for damn emergencies. At this point, if he even called, I wouldn’t even tell him about what happened.

“Who is it?” I inquired when I heard a knock at my door.

“It’s me,” Yas announced.

“What the hell you doin’ poppin’ up over here?”

“You didn’t text me this mornin’ and yo’ car wasn’t outside yo’ job when I rode by on my way home, so I decided to pop up. Speakin’ of yo’ car, where is it?”

“Girl, somebody stole it.”

“You sayin’ that like it’s no big deal. Did you call the police? Are there any leads on it?”

“Because it’s not somethin’ I want to continue stressin’ over. I didn’t go to the police and haven’t gotten any leads ‘bout it from Nas yet.”

“Wait, Nas out there lookin’ for it?”

“Yeah. Maybe with his lil’ street connections he could find it quicker than the police.”

“Nessa, I’m sorry you goin’ through this, sis. I’m sure it’ll be found if not then you can use my car while I’m at work.”

“Thanks boo. We gonna see what happens. Hopefully, I get an update on it today.”

“Wait you called Nas instead of Desmond?”

“I mean I called Desmond first three times but no answer. When I called Nas he damn near answered on the first ring and was there within minutes.”

“Ok, Nas,” she smirked while pressing her thumb and pointer finger together.
