“Baby, do you blame me?”

“Yes!” Whether it’s fair or not, I’ve always blamed Fabien.

“And I’ll gladly shoulder the blame,” he says, having attuned my thoughts. “You wanted revenge. I was going to let you have it, even if it was temporary.”

My tongue darts out, wetting my lips. “I could take it now.”

“You could,” he agrees, his blue eyes unwavering. “If you kill me, will you finally be happy? Because that’s what you deserve,” he says softly. “What you’ve always deserved.”

Killing Fabien would not make me happy, and isn’t that inconvenient?

With a growl, I toss the gun on Jermaine’s corpse and storm out of the hallway and into my work studio. “If my school project is damaged, there’s going to be hell to pay!”

Chapter Forty-Eight

Sienna

The present

Having showered God knows whose blood off of me, I’m now in the kitchen eating leftover spaghetti, while a team of hazmat men clears the carnage from our home.

Yes, I said our home.

Fabien appears, and I fling my fork at his head.

He ducks and then advances to where I’m caged against the counter.

I go to pound his chest, but he snatches my wrists, yanking my hands over my head. With a wild glint in his eyes, he says, “Careful, wife. This looks dangerously close to you caring. That would make it a third time, and we both know third time’s the charm.”

My entire body is on fire. This man short-circuits every wire, driving me both mad and hot at the same time. It can’t be healthy. “Is that how many times you’re going to try and destroy me?”

A lazy smile stretches his mouth. “And yet here you stand.”

Despite my best efforts, my lips lift. “Here I stand.”

A look of pride washes over his handsome face. “That’s my girl. But only if you want to be. Divorce papers are being drawn up as we speak.”

Saint appears, waiving a stack. “Boss, I must advise against this, as I haven’t had time to go through all the financials. And with no prenup—”

“If it says we’re divorced, and Sienna has taken me to the cleaners, then it’ll do. Pen.” Fabien snaps his fingers, and Saint produces a ballpoint pen from his jacket pocket.

Fabien flips to the last page, signing and dating it before extending the pen out for me.

“And if I call your bluff?” My lungs feel like they’re tightening past the point of bursting.

“Freedom is yours. You’ll finally have everything,” he says softly.

Everything? How can there be an everything without an us?

I storm to the table, grabbing the stack. With a shriek, I rip the papers into shreds, flinging them at Fabien like confetti. “Till death do us part. I’ll never be your peace for the rest of your miserable life.”

Saint chuckles, quietly slipping out of the room.

Fabien is on me in a flash, gripping my chin. “Don’t threaten me with a good time.” He slams his lips to mine, and my teeth sink into his lip, drawing the metallic taste of his blood in my mouth.

He growls, jerking back. With a feral look that I’m sure matches my own, he retrieves his ice pick and jabs it into the palm of his hand.

Gasping, I watch as he makes a fist, gathering a pool of blood. “Till death do us part. We seal it with blood.”
