“I did. She had nightmares about the accident.” Gregory hated that she’d had to go through it and was dealing with the repercussions. “Raymond’s back is feeling better, but I want him to take off for a few more days until his back is no longer bothering him.”

“Good. But not about Sascha’s nightmares. I still can’t believe she thought I was ditching Marvin for some other guy. Are you ready to have breakfast?”

He wanted the pancakes Sascha was going to make for Prescott and Kat, though he knew Prescott had a chef who prepared their meals too. But the novelty of Sascha making them was what made them especially appealing to him.

“Yeah, on breakfast. Sascha’s meeting with Lucy this morning,” Gregory said. “I overheard Kat call out that Lucy had arrived to speak with her.”

“She’s probably concerned that Sascha was in the accident and wanted to personally check on her,” Rose said.

Rose and Gregory went into the dining room and sat down while they were served eggs Benedict with béarnaise sauce on English muffins.

“So what have you discovered about the family?” Rose asked, repeating her question from last night.

Gregory put a cloth napkin on his lap and took a sip of his coffee. “Nothing we didn’t already know. Lucy has a website that states she’s a self-professed ghost hunter and healer. Sascha is a fortune teller, and she’s going to be at a fair this weekend.”

“Are you going to see her?” Rose started eating her eggs.

“No, why?”

“No reason.”

But he knew his sister better than that. She believed he was fixated on Sascha. Which he wasn’t. Well, maybe a little bit.

“Don’t you wish you could be a fly on the wall, listening in on what Lucy, Katrina, and Sascha have to say?” Rose drank some of her orange juice.

“Yeah. I do. Maybe if I got lucky, I would learn everything there is to know about them.”

“You ought to go to the fair and see if you can overhear anything. Katrina is supposed to be there with Sascha. Maybe they’ll say something that will interest you.”

“Why don’t you go?” he asked.

“I have a date with Marvin. And I’m not the one who is dying to know more about the cousins.”

Gregory never attended fairs. Though neither did Prescott, and then there he was, getting caught up with Katrina even though he’d been dating Stephanie at the time.

“Just don’t let Stephanie know if you go to the fair. She had a fit about Prescott meeting Katrina there.”

Gregory smiled. “I ought to take her with me.”

“She wouldn’t go, I can tell you right now. It would probably be like déjà vu. But if you do go, pay for another reading. See if Sascha can tell you more about Fenton.”

He chuckled. “You don’t really believe that, do you?”

“Okay, then I’ll take Marvin with me, and you’ll go too, and we’ll see what she has to say.”

Now that was an idea.

“Okay, tell Marvin we’re going to the fair.”

Rose smiled. “He’ll be surprised.”

“Especially if Katrina or Sascha says that your true love is a guy named Fenton.”

“Okay, so what did you want to see me about?” Sascha asked Lucy. She was glad to be wearing a bright blue boho skirt and a long-sleeved, vibrant patchwork, blousy shirt, which made her feel more like her normal self.

Lucy sat down in the living room with her and Kat. Lucy was wearing one of her ’ 60s-style dresses with a belt at the waist and a full skirt. She was always purchasing vintage clothing from the ’50s and ’60s to wear.

Kat was wearing jeans and a sweater, looking casual and relaxed.
