I left him on read and changed my clothes.

Some time passed, and I heard a knock on my door as I was putting on some lip gloss. I quickly sprayed my body spray and went out to get the door.

As I opened it, Mario was already smiling.

“Good evening, baby girl,” he said, handing me a single rose.

“Hey, and thank you,” I said, taking the rose from him.

I walked outta my house and locked my door.

“I thought you played me,” he said as I turned around.

“And why do you think that?” I asked.

“The way you carried me, you acted like you had a list or some shit.”

I laughed. “Nah, luv, I had a date that night.”

We walked out to his car. He opened the door for me and helped me get in.

“If you are out with me, I am guessing that he fucked up.”

I laughed. “Somethin’ like that, but why you worried about the last nigga? You should be worried about me.”

Mario nodded as he pulled off. “You're right, ma, say less.”

As we drove through the city, Mario reached into his armrest and handed me some weed and a leaf.

“Can you roll up for us?”

I took it from him. “Yeah, I can do that.”

He smiled. “Let me find out you're a cutie that’s with the shits.”

“Don’t let my cute face and the cute clothes fool you. I can be a menace if I need to.”

“Oh really? And what would make you a menace?”

I smirked as I licked the leaf. “Get me mad and you will see.”

We made it to this lounge not far from me. Mario parked in the cut, and I lit the blunt. As we smoked, he asked me questions about my life and my dreams. I gave him half answers, already telling from his responses that he wasn’t the nigga for me.

Mario was giving me low vibrations. He didn’t have any goals for himself. He worked for the city. He didn’t want to be a manager or do a different job. Between that and rolling dice on the block, that’s all he saw for himself.

“So you want big things in life,” he said.

“Don’t everybody?”

He shrugged. “Yeah, I guess. But for me, I'm content.”

I nodded. “That is good to know.”

I looked around the room for some other niggas, maybe a nigga that had more to offer when he caught me.

“You didn’t like that response?”

I took a sip of my drink. “I mean, I feel everybody should want better for themselves. Maybe not celebrity status, but to upgrade their life.”
