Chapter 11
Jaxxon
Hoistingmy omega higher in my arms, I study her face, smiling to myself as I watch the gears turn in her head. I’m not sure what she's planning, but I’ll bet all my remaining credits it's another escape attempt. She thinks just because we’re not bound yet that I can’t read her as easily as I can my datacom, but she’s wrong.
The uneasy scent of her agitation gives her away, and it’s not just the fact that we’re going to the Dead Lands. That little nugget of information had a scent reaction all of its own. She’s terrified of that place and should be. The few days I spent there were not fun in the slightest. No longer did the lower levels I remember hold any appeal. It’s all death and carnage now.
I can only pray to the gods that Langston has a suitable place picked out for us. I don’t claim to be better than the other Alphas and betas toiling away in that bunker, but from what I can smell, I’m the only one with an omega. Parading her through that group would be like waving a piece of meat in front of a desert cat.
Men could resist her scent for only so long, and if she’s the first they’ve smelled in a while, then that could trigger a rut that would see all of them dead. I will protect my little Annora. I couldn’t save Annalise, but I can’t help but feel like the gods are blessing me with a second chance with this small bundle of omega in my arms. She’s feisty in a way that Annalise never was. Annora is raw, edgy, a product of her upbringing, and I find every bit of her fascinating.
Until holding Annora, I didn’t realize how pale my feelings for Annalise were. I would never have had to spank her for something she did wrong, yet every time my hand crashed down on Annora’s backside, I felt more like an Alpha than I ever did with Annalise. I was powerful, virile. Did Annora even realize she was getting turned on? She wailed about the pain I delivered, but underneath it all, her lower lips glistened as she bucked against me.
I’d never been one to play sexual games like some of the other Alphas. They would boast about their beta conquests and the amount of pain they could dispense along with the pleasure, and none of it ever sparked my interest. All I needed, before meeting Annalise, was a warm cunt to shove my knot into. Now, I find my imagination piqued at what I could do to Annora.
I don’t want to frighten her, but there’s something deep inside that likes it. I want to give my omega everything her heart could possibly desire, and if that means she wants me to punish her, even in fun, then I have no problem doing that. In fact, I hope to the gods that she is actually planning her next escape. It will give me a reason to try some new things on her.
Arousal thrums through me as Annora shifts about in my arms. The head of my cock rubs against my lower abs as my balls draw up achingly tight. I will need to avail myself of some form of relief soon. I won’t take a beta lover; I’m not that kind of Alpha, but I’ll for sure need to dispel this tension somehow. Hopefully, in this safe house, they have the supplies for a nest. That would always be a good place to shoot my load.
The sooner I can drive her into heat, the sooner I can claim her properly. I want my bite on her skin more than life itself, but I can’t force myself onto her. That would make me no better than the Alphas that terrorized her, and I refuse to be lumped in with the likes of them.
Silence hangs heavy between us as we slip in and out of shadows, making our way to the transport. Langston ran his tracker detector over us once more before we left the house, so that shouldn’t be a problem. It won’t stop people from watching, though. Again, that feeling of helpless impotence throbs in the back of my skull like a never-ending refrain. I fucked up with Annalise, but there’s no way I can allow anything to happen to Annora. What small, human part of me is left would surely crumble until I’m nothing but a shell.
To be honest, if I hadn’t found Annora, the emptiness where the bond should be would probably have eaten at me until I, too, was dead. It was only through the grace of the gods that I found her. The fact that her scent is almost identical to Annalise doesn’t hurt either. It soothes that ravaged part of me that wants nothing more than to curl up and die.
With Annora in my arms, my life has hope again; it has meaning. I can’t tell her how much she means to me because to do so would admit the one weakness I have. They can torture me, strip me of all my wealth and goods, but for them to take my omega, my mate, would be the end of me.
Turning my mind away from the morose feelings threatening to overwhelm me, I nuzzle her hair, dragging her scent deep inside me. I have to focus on the differences between the two omegas. It won’t be fair to Annora to have me compare her to a ghost. The spicy undercurrent goes straight to my cock, and it jerks again.
I stifle a moan as I hold her close, but the side-eye glances Langston keeps giving me are almost comical. Even if Annora can smell the arousal dripping off of me, there’s no way she can process it and give it meaning. To her, it will be just one more unidentifiable scent that I’ll have to teach her to learn and understand. Once she’s coated in my cum, she’ll have a very intimate knowledge.
Just that thought alone has my balls drawing back up. It’s the best kind of torture, one I hope to never tire of. Looking down, I watch as her eyes drift shut, and probably for the best. No doubt she didn’t get much rest in that shit show of a hospital. The more sleep she can get, the higher chance her body can heal.
Following Langston’s lead, we hide for a bit as we watch the transport. No one comes near it, and I don’t know enough about this new world to know if it’s normal or not. I glance down at the com on my sleeve and note the time. Shouldn’t people be going to and from work? The place is like a dead zone. There’s no sign of movement at all.
Annora shifts around and looks up at me, her eyes so soft and sad. “I can’t go home, can I? I have clothes there, and food….” She trails off, looking away, but I can smell the unease as it grows. Annora is hiding something, and I don’t like it.
“What do you really need there? Because I’m sure I can procure you some better fitting clothes, and if we don’t have food where we’re going, I’ll go hunting for Springbok myself. You will never want for necessities. Just because we will not be living in the sectors doesn’t mean your needs won’t get met. I’m more than capable. If I can help with some of the wants and desires, I’ll do that too.”
She pauses for a moment and looks away again. Agitation crawls up my spine until my back is ramrod. When will this omega learn that I will move the suns above if I could just to make her happy? The fact that she’s refusing to disclose her needs makes for a stilted relationship at the onset.
I know she’s traumatized. I know she doesn’t trust me from every other Alpha out there, but I’m sure she trusts Langston more than she does me, and it’s a stab to the heart that hurts way more than it should. Setting her to the ground, I grip her chin in my grasp and force her gaze to mine. Even then, she still averts her eyes. I wonder if this is a power play. Does she want me to meet her silence with force? Does she want me to be ruff and gruff because that’s all she expects from Alphas?
No matter the reason, I refuse to play these games. I will not allow miscommunication to keep driving wedges between us. In one swift movement, I grip the back of her neck and turn her to face a nearby wall. I won’t use physical violence on her here, especially not out in public, but if she wants to act like a petulant child, then I have no problem treating her like one.
Pushing her forward, I walk her to the wall and don’t stop until her nose is pressed against the rough building. “You will stand here, hands behind your back, until you’re ready to talk to me. I’m not a mind reader. I can read your body and your scent fairly well, but I will not play these guessing games with you. Until you’re ready to ask for what you want, you will look at that wall and not move. Any time you break position, I will note it and punish you for it when we’re safe at our new house. Do you understand?”
“But I -.”
“I didn’t ask for feedback or excuses. I asked, ‘Do you understand.’”
“You can’t -.”
“One. I will not tolerate this arguing. Do you understand?”
I glance over at Langston, and his face is split into a large grin. I guess that means I’m on the right path. Who knew my days as a Guardian Alpha would help in these sorts of situations? Granted, it wasn’t a corner the underlings were facing, but the commanding is just the same. Her foot comes down in an adorable stomp, and I force the chuckle back down. I can’t let her think she’s amusing me; it will only take some of my authority away and, in a sense, reward this behavior.
“Two. I said to not break position. Are you done fighting me? Or do you want to add another?”
