emotions.”
“But that can’t be healthy…”
“Never said it was, but it’s what works for me. Now then,” he says, abruptly changing the subject.
“Ready to show me that apartment of yours?”
I groan and burrow into his chest, my happy feelings starting to flee.
“Seriously.” His fingers slide under my chin to tip my face up to his. “No judgment.”
A heavy sigh drifts from my lips as I slip my hand in his and pull him toward my door. If we have
any hope of a future together, he has to see and accept me at my worst. And, honestly, I don’t think
anything I do will surpass this. I’ve watched the fastidious way he does things, and though I haven’t
been to his house yet, I’m pretty sure it’s nothing like mine.
Besides, he can afford maids and probably doesn’t have to worry about anything getting too dirty.
But I can’t. And usually, I have no strength, nor will, to do anything like cleaning once I get back
home.
Putting the key in the lock, I pause until the heat of Master Aiden’s chest burns into my back. With
a click, I push the door open and let him go inside first. That way he can just see the mess and get it
over with.
Once he steps into the living room, he pauses and turns his head about, taking in every bit of
clutter and clothes. My apartment isn’t exactly dirty. It isn’t gross. There’s just so much stuff I haven’t
put away that I’m pretty sure I’m just a few steps away from featuring on an unpleasant television
show.
Turning he pins me with a hard stare. “Talk to me.”
I lift my hands up and look at the mess with a helpless glance. “I don’t know what you want me to
say. If I’m not working, I’m at Black Light. The few days I get to recover from my heavy massage
days are spent with me in bed with either a heating pad or an ice pack depending on how my week
has been.”
“And massaging at Black Light?” He crosses his arms and pins me with a hard stare.
“I have no choice.”
“Oh. So, I’m to understand that Spencer twisted your arm and forced you to massage?” His voice
is tight, as if he’s upset, but his face is calm. Too calm.
“Please don’t be mad. I need you to not be upset right now.”
