care. So, whatever it is you think you’re doing to help him, most certainly involves me.”

“You may think that,” she murmurs, pushing past me to busy herself with the sheets on the table.

“But until he tells me otherwise, what happens in this room stays in this room. I’m surprised you’re so

forthcoming with information. Doesn’t ethics mean anything to you?”

Irritation climbs up my spine at her accusation, but I shove it to the side. Telling her who that man

is isn’t revealing anything that you can’t find on the internet. His name is out there for everyone to see.

Any fan could have pointed him out.

“Don’t worry,” she snaps, her eyes flashing as she turns her face to me. “Nothing I’m doing is

detrimental to his physical or mental health. And more so, it has absolutely nothing to do with you.”

“Don’t you worry, my little charlatan,” I purr, walking back up to her until her back is pinned

against the door. “I’ll be seeing for myself sooner rather than later your effect on him. Mark my

words, if you’ve injured him in any way or somehow jeopardize his career—”

“Save your idle threats,” she cuts me off, lips pressed into a thin line. “I’ll turn myself over to the

massage board if that happens. I have the integrity to do so. Do you?”

I stumble back at her veiled accusation. “Are you implying—”

“I’m implying nothing. I’m merely using the same verbal weapons as you are. I may be a

submissive, but I can sure as hell match energy. Wanna lob another jab at my profession at me? I

would love to dive into the unnecessary surgeries that are performed every year just to line the

pockets of shady surgeons. Talk about charlatans, you all seem to really take the cake. If you think all I

do is swindle and cheat people, then there’s the door. You can leave at any time.”

“Listen here,” I bark out, cutting off her line of accusations. “I am not a shady surgeon. I only do

what is necessary.”

“Oh, you mean like I’m not like every questionable massage therapist and yet you paint me with

the same brush as one?”

Unfortunately, she has a point. I’ve been lumping her in with all the others that spout hokum only

to have no results. But so far, nothing I’ve seen validates what she’s saying. If only I had some proof,

some tiny shred of evidence that they actually do some good, instead of nothing at best, and harm at

worst.

“I have data to back up what I’m doing. Peer-reviewed journals. Education. What do you have

except a roadmap of the body hanging on your walls and crystals in every available pocket?”
