This time, I can’t tell if it’s relief, my own insecurities, or some weird amalgamation of the two. Smiling down at me, Davix misunderstands, thinking they are tears of joy. And in some ways, they are, but certainly not in the ways that matter. He brushes his thumb across my cheek as he rocks his hips back and forth, dragging his cock along the sensitive nerves in my core.

“Am I hurting you?” For a moment, confusion and worry fill his face instead of the blissed-out expression that had been there.

“No. It’s just overwhelming.” I give him a tremulous smile, trying to diffuse the situation, but I still feel the tendrils of his psyche brushing against mine.

I tremble as he pushes deeper, ferreting out my thoughts. It takes every remaining shred of willpower to flood my mind with thoughts of pleasure and happiness, giving him nothing to be suspicious over. Soon, he pulls back, and I can’t help the sigh of relief that flits through my lips.

Dipping low, Davix brushes his lips against mine, swallowing the moan that pours out of me, taking it deep inside. Every movement he makes sends pleasure exploding through my body until I’m no longer faking the emotions flitting through my brain.

Over and over, he pounds into me, both of us moaning in unison. Our cries of passion bounce off of the ceiling, surrounding us in an erotic cocoon. His hips crash into mine with smooth, powerful strokes, but somehow, it’s not enough.

Grinning down at me, Davix raises my legs, changing angles until he’s slamming into that magical spot that makes everything tremble and shake. My core flutters around him, clamping down on his hard shaft until muttered curses drip from his lips. Redoubling his efforts, he quickens the pace and wedges his fingers between us to play with my clit.

I’m helpless as he torments me, amping up my pleasure yet giving me no relief. And that’s when I feel the swell of his knot, only it’s not inside me. Panic freezes me as he pushes his way inside, forcing my walls to stretch even more to accommodate him.

There’s no pain, not really, just a sharp, pleasurable burn that makes my insides quiver. I stare up at him, shoving my fear through the bond. I can’t seem to tell him what’s wrong, but I hope he understands.

His features soften as he gazes down at me, flooding my mind with all the love he can conjure. “Trust me, love. I’ve got you. You can take this. You can take me. Just relax and let yourself go.”

Closing my eyes, I allow myself to feel. Even though there’s a bite of pain, it makes the pleasure that much more. Keening wails claw at my throat as he pulls himself out, letting that audible pop sound between us. Soon, his hand slips up to wrap around my throat, grounding me as he pushes forward again.

“That’s it, my omega. I’m going to make you feel so good. So, fucking good.” Once more, his free hand drifts to my clit, his fingertips dancing along the sensitive nub.

This time, as he pushes forward, he doesn’t allow me a chance to overthink it. The pain is quite a bit more, but the pleasure that comes with it overrides any logical thought that pops into my head. Shouts of pleasure fill the air as my body bows up, my orgasm barreling through me.

Davix groans as his knot settles behind my pubic bone, pressing against the nerves that make me come again and again. His fingers continue to play with me, drawing out my pleasure until I beg him to stop.

Both of us panting, he rolls us onto our sides and holds me close, so that I can hear the rapid thumping of his heart. It’s so soothing, so relaxing. Even though I find myself drifting off to sleep, I can still hear his soft voice as he whispers tender words and feelings into my ears.

“I love you, my little omega.” he clutches me to him, no doubt waiting for me to say it back. But I can’t.

It stays lodged in my chest, sitting there like a heavy stone. Deepening my breathing, I force myself to stay still as he holds me, feigning sleep while he peppers my hair with soft kisses. I want to tell him I love him too, but what good would that do when I’m still planning on running? I don’t want to shatter his heart any more than I’m already going to.

CHAPTER 21

Ladria

Once more, the sun greets me, teasing me with its warmth as it flows through the window to cover my body. I don’t even know what day it is. Since my heat, my schedule has changed completely. If only I had enough foresight to mark the wall like I did my cell, but no good will come of trying that now.

Shaking my head, I stretch out on the bed, nearly purring like a fenofelis that lazes about the house all day. Somehow, it’s a rather apt description. However, despite my loneliness, despite my boredom, there’s still nothing for me to do here, no occupation that fills my mind.

The door opens revealing Mogen carrying a steaming tray. Pulling the sheet up, I cover my nakedness, feigning a smile at the mouth-watering dish. Galansce has certainly not lowered his standards while cooking for me. Despite my being a house omega, he crafts wonderful dishes that never fail to excite my appetite.

…Just one more link in the gilded cage to keep me here.

“What day is it?”

Mogen pauses, her brow wrinkling in thought. “I believe it is Wednesday.”

“Thank you.” I drag the tray closer to me and smile at the old woman, watching as she exits the room.

Wednesday. That was the day after grooming day if I remember correctly. If my math holds, that means it’s been yet another handful of weeks since my heat. But then, I really can’t trust my mind. The days blur, blending into one. Perhaps it’s only been a single week?

But my gut tells me it’s been longer. Tipping the bowl toward my lips, I devour the rich soup, taking any nourishment I can to shore up my strength. Glancing at the timepiece, I know I have only thirty minutes or so before Mogen comes back to collect the dishes, so if I want to savor what I have, I better do so in the time allotted.

Like clockwork, she comes back, trading me a book for my bowl. More than likely I’m not going to read this one, just like I haven’t read all the others. I’ll skim through it, turning down the top of the page to mark my spot as if I’m actually reading it, but I have no desire. None of these history books hold any sway over me — just dusty tomes from old, dead men.

Flipping it over in my hands, I graze the raised details with my fingernails, admiring the craftsmanship before flipping through it. I watch over the edge as Mogen smiles down at me, content that I’m so satisfied sitting here reading. After a few moments, she slips out the door, closing it behind her.
