“I don’t know what this is, Mia, but I can’t ignore it anymore.” I waved my hand at the table. “Not after that.”

She pulled in a breath and hugged the sheet tighter. “We said we’d stay away from each other.”

“And we can’t.”

She looked up at me as I closed the distance between us.

“Mia, I’ve tried. We both have. And we can go over all the reasons we shouldn’t do this, but right now, I just don’t care. I want you in my bed. Now.”

She kept one hand on the hem of her sheet, keeping it in place, as she put the other on my chest. “What if we go back to your office? We don’t have to risk–”

“No. That’s not what I want. You think I’ll be satisfied with having you once? I need more, Mia.”

The sweet, strangled cry that came from her lips made me want to take her mouth all over again. I wanted to swallow that sound.

“What do you mean ‘more’?” she asked, her fingers twisting into the fabric of my shirt.

“I have my home to myself this weekend, and I want to spend it with you.”

Her gaze flared as she searched me, looking for a hint of doubt. She wouldn’t find any. I knew what it sounded like. I knew what I was asking, and I didn’t care. I wanted her, and I wanted her to know it.

“But then, what happens after? We go back to ignoring each other?”

This was the first time I hesitated since she laid on my table.

I’d never wanted anyone like I wanted Mia. But her question made it seem like this was something we could get out of our systems. For me, this felt like something permanent. This felt like fixing something broken.

But for her, maybe this was just something physical. Maybe she was hate-fucking me just to get me out of her head.

Either way, at least I’d have her to myself.

“Give me these two days, and I’ll give you whatever you want when we’re done.”

My answer must have been the right one because her gaze turned into something playful.

She fisted my shirt and lifted onto her toes as she said, “Oh no, Mr Hudson, I don’t think so. You’ll give me what I want now and when we’re done.”

My laugh was low and gruff as I pulled her close, feeling the shape of her through the sheet.

“Careful, Walker. I might just give you more than you can take.”

MIA’S APARTMENT

Saturday Night

As we stepped on and off the subway, all I could think was: I shouldn’t be doing this.

But then he’d pull me closer, his voice deep and low in my ear as he reminded me that this was just between us.

And while that was true, the moment we stepped inside my apartment, reality slammed back into me.

“Are you sure we should be doing this?” I asked out loud, twisting my fingers together as I watched him take in my cluttered studio.

He gripped my hand. “That’s up to you. You already know what I want.”
