“Nice segue,” Gwen said with another grin.

“If you start talking about the bank, then it’s a nice segue.”

Gwen laughed. “All right. Fine. Things at the bank are as exhilarating as ever. When I worked my butt off for my finance degree, I’d always hoped I would land myself a job as fascinating as branch manager at Carter Island Trust.”

Molly took another bite, clearly letting Gwen’s sarcasm roll off her back. “When’s Liam coming home?”

“In a couple of days.”

Callie sipped her tea. “Are things better between you two?”

“Yes. He’s going to take a few days off and paint the baby’s room. We might go into Boston and pick out some furniture for her room.”

Molly frowned. “You’re not going to use the stuff Mom has here?”

“Yes. We’d be buying stuff for the apartment.”

Molly’s frown deepened. “Why are you setting up a nursery there?”

“Because Liam can’t make it home all the time, so I thought it would be nice if we went and stayed with him on the weekends.”

“Oh.” Molly scooped up the remains of her napkin.

Gwen reached across the table for her sister’s hand. “I’m not moving to Boston.”

Molly jerked her shoulders. “Maybe you are and maybe you aren’t. You need to do what’s best for you and the baby.”

“I’m not raising my baby in the city. She’s going to grow up here on the island where her Aunt Molly and Uncle Nate can see her whenever they want.”

Callie took another sip of her tea, envying her friends their bond. She and her sister, Jennifer, weren’t nearly as close as Molly and Gwen—and she had no one to blame for that but herself. Jennifer and Jacob had gone out of their way to make her feel like she’d belonged, but for most of her childhood she’d been too afraid to let any of the Davises get too close.

“Aunt Callie.” Gwen gave her arm a gentle shake. “Earth to Aunt Callie.”

Callie snapped to attention, smiling and more than a little honored that Gwen thought she deserved such a special title. “I’m sorry?”

“I was telling Molly that we decided on a name for Baby Girl—or mostly I did—but Liam likes it.”

Callie grinned. “What is it?”

“Kaitlyn Taylor O’Leary.”

“Aw,” Callie and Molly said at the same time.

“We need to start thinking about your baby shower,” Molly suggested. “Mom’s going to want to be a part of the planning.”

Gwen batted her lashes. “You’re making the cake?”

Molly frowned. “What kind of question is that? Of course I’m making the cake. You pick out what you want and I’ll make it happen.”

“And Callie, you’ll take care of the decorations? The flowers and stuff?”

Callie beamed. “I would love to.”

“Then Kaitlyn and I are going to have the best baby shower in town.”

“Count on it.” Molly stood and threw away her trash, then came back, clearing her throat. “So, I’ve been thinking about some stuff and I want to talk to you two.”

Gwen handed over her trash for Molly to toss away. “I thought that’s what we were doing.”
