“I just want to help you.”

“You can’t help me with this. There are things I can’t tell you right now. I’m working an active investigation.”

It didn’t bother her that he couldn’t share the details of Bob’s case. She just wanted the sad, weary look to leave his eyes. “All right.”

He sighed, capturing her hands and pulling her closer. “I’m sorry, Callie. I’m just frustrated.”

She locked her arms around his waist. “What can I do?”

He kissed her. “Come take a shower with me.” Cradling her cheeks, he brought his lips back to hers, adding more pressure. “Let me get lost in you.”

“We can make that happen,” she whispered, kissing him again.

“Then let’s cook together. Tonight’s stir-fry, right?”

She smiled, recognizing that Nate needed a normal night. “Ginger chicken.”

He took her hand. “Come on.”

She walked with Nate upstairs, stepping into the shower with him, making certain he thought only of her for a while.
