“That’s what friends are for.”

“Don’t tell Nate, okay?”

“That’s entirely against girl code.” She smiled as Molly did and lifted the cloth to inspect the progress. “Just your left eye to go and you’re back in business.”

“Are you sure?”

She nodded. “And I don’t think I’ve mentioned that you look amazing today. There’s really no better revenge.” And Molly did. She rarely wore heels, slacks, or much more than a few coats of mascara, but when she went with her full arsenal, she went from beautiful to breathtaking.

Molly grinned this time as she looked in the mirror. “Not bad, huh?”

Callie grinned behind her as she slid a lock of Molly’s hair back into place. “Not bad at all.”

Molly set the cloth on the sink and took Callie’s hand. “Let’s go steal a piece of cake then get back to kicking some wedding ass.”

“Definitely.”

They laughed as they sashayed down the hall to the stairs and made their way back to the party.

Nate lit the last of the dozen candles surrounding the edge of his oversized bathtub as he heard the truck door slamming closed in the driveway. Smiling, he set the lighter on the sink and hurried downstairs as Callie let herself in through the front door. “Hey, co–wedding planner.”

Her smile bloomed into a grin. “Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?”

“Long day.”

“Yes.” Stepping out of her heels, she closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around him. “But it was lovely. The bride and groom had their wedding their way.”

He held on, loving that she didn’t hesitate to be affectionate. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “Are you hungry?”

“Not really. I had a piece of tenderloin and a salad while we helped clean up.”

He eased away and unbuttoned her coat. “How about a bath?”

She groaned as she took off her pale blue cashmere pea coat and stepped away to hang it next to his standard office-issue black jacket. “That sounds wonderful.”

“Come on.” He took her hand. “I’ll run it for you.”

She started up the steps with him. “You’re too good to me.”

“Nah. I just missed you today.”

Her grin returned. “I missed you too.”

They walked through the bedroom into the bathroom and she stopped, her eyes going soft as she looked from the candles to him. “Nate, this is beautiful.”

He smiled. “You’ve been running around like crazy the last couple of weeks. Tonight, I want you to relax.”

“How could I not?” She stepped closer to the tub and pressed her hand to her chest. “Rose petals. Nate.” She turned and cradled his cheeks in her palms. “I don’t know what to say.”

He knew what he wanted to say. They’d known each other for less than two months, yet he couldn’t live without her. “You like it?”

“Love it. I love it,” she whispered, kissing him. “Take a bath with me,” she murmured against his lips, then lifted his T-shirt over his head.

“If you’re looking for a joiner, I won’t argue.” He turned on the faucet, adjusted the temperature, and let the tub start filling. “It’s going to be a couple of minutes.”

“That’s fine, but I’m definitely looking forward to getting into that water.” She took off her shirt, then her bra, and shivered. “It’s cold outside.”
