CHAPTER TWELVE

“Mr. Stonewell,” Logan greets. Eme continues to stand there, dumbfounded that her father is in this house.

“Call me Lee, Logan. We should be on a first-name basis.”

“What are you doing here?” she finally asks.

“Draven called me.” Her father crosses his arms. “He told me about the boy. I left right when I heard.”

Logan rakes a hand through his hair. “He shouldn’t have.”

Lee holds up a finger. “Isn’t that part of an alliance? Or are you going back on your word?”

“That’s not what he’s saying, Daddy.” Eme steps forward so that she’s side by side with Logan, a united front.

“Eme,” Lee chastises. “You look well.” He frowns when he looks at her neck and doesn’t find the bite mark. She blushes at his scrutiny.

“What he’s saying is it’s nothing to worry about,” Eme continues.

“Nothing to worry about?” Lee’s face reddens. “A young wolf with wolfcalm isn’t something to worry about?”

“He’s awake, and we’ve been assured that he’ll recover,” Logan interjects.

“But,” her father begins, but Logan cuts him off.

“Let’s get one thing straight, Lee. This is my pack, and though there may be an alliance, that doesn’t mean you can butt into my personal affairs. I’m the Head Alpha. I’ll tell you when you’re necessary.”

Pride fills Eme’s chest. Though she’s missed her father, she agrees with Logan. Lee doesn’t belong in this pack.

Lee stares at him for a long while before he speaks. “Very well. But, can you tell me how he got the drugs?”

Logan sighs then tells him everything that had transpired in the clinic. “That’s all we know.”

“That’s not a lot to go on.”

“It’s all we have,” Logan admits. “But we have plans to find out more.”

“Are you sending more wolves?” Lee raises an eyebrow.

“The order hasn’t been given,” Eme says as she slides her hand into Logan’s. “But I’m sure it will once there’s evidence.”

Lee glances at their hands twined together. Then he looks at Eme and back at Logan. “I’d like to stay until the mating is completed.”

“Daddy,” Eme huffs. Though shifters don’t tend to be embarrassed by a lot of things, the last thing she wants is to have her father around while she’s to mate - to have sex - with another man. It’s too weird, too awkward.

“No buts. If it’s suitable for Logan, I can stay in the guest house while I see this alliance through.”

“You don’t have to do that,” Eme says.

Lee holds up a finger. “I want to. Things are getting darker, Eme. A young wolf almost died. It’s time to mate with Logan, or the entire pack will fall apart. They need a united front, and right now, all they have is confusion.”

“We’re waiting,” Logan says.

“For what? The moon to be ripe? For the pack to start questioning your judgment?”

“He’s waiting for me to be ready,” Eme whispers.

“Bah,” her father spits. “This is as much of a deal to you as it is to Logan and the alliance, Eme. Do you love him?”
