Finally, Logan looks at her, concern softening his features. “I didn’t want to alarm you when we didn’t know much about it. Someone was supposed to keep it between us and the enforcers.” He glares at Wayne from over her head.

Wayne holds up his hand. “I don’t like to keep secrets from both of my alphas. You can’t keep asking that of me.”

“I-” Logan growls the word, but Eme cuts him off.

“No! Enough! Yesterday, I found out the secret of the wolfcalm, and today I find out this. I’m living here. I’m to be the alpha of this pack, and I should know what I’m getting into, not be blindsided by it. You told me you weren’t going to keep anything else from your future mate. What else are you keeping from me, Logan? What else should I know?”

Eme is standing by this point, and Logan turns to fully face her. He grips her shoulders and pleads with his eyes. “Nothing. That’s it. There’s nothing else I’ve kept from you.”

“How am I supposed to believe that?”

“Because he’s telling the truth,” Wayne interjects. “That’s all there is unless he’s keeping things from me too, which is doubtful.”

Eme has no choice but to believe Wayne. As he said, he didn’t like keeping the secrets in the first place. Huffing, she decides she’ll deal with Logan later. “I want to see it.”

“Where the wolf crossed the territory?” Wayne asks.

“Yes.”

“But it might be dangerous,” Logan says. He releases her shoulders to cross his arms in defiance.

“Oh, come now, Logan,” Lee grumbles. “The wolf is already gone, is it not? Why can’t she come along to check out the scent? She’ll be alpha, after all. She should know the workings of her pack.”

She watches Logan as he grinds his teeth. Finally, he relents. “Okay, but if there’s any trouble, you’re marching right back to the house.”

By the sink, Val, who had been silent during the entire exchange, whispers, “Men,” in a growling tone.
