“You’re going to take the credit, aren’t you?”

“Of course I am! It was my damn ideas that won her over.” Wayne grins again as he rubs his hands together. “So, by rights, she’s in love with me and just doesn’t know it.”

Logan growls at him. He’s already possessive over Eme, though he tries to keep it tucked away. Wayne just laughs.

“Did you find it?” Eme’s voice calls from behind, having followed his scent down the path they made through the snow.

“Oh, we found out something,” Wayne calls back. Logan slaps him in the chest.

“Down here, Eme.”

Eme and Lee make their way down the snowy path and come to stand by Logan. Her scent surrounds him, and he takes a big whiff to calm his nerves about this intruder on his land. He still doesn’t like her down here, but they’re right. She has a right to check it out.

“It’s not the same wolves that keep coming onto our land. This one is new,” Logan murmurs to her. He stuffs his hands into his coat pockets to keep from touching her. Touching her would be balancing on the edge of what she divulged last night and, at the same time, giving Lee the reason to make assumptions. That’s the last thing he wants. The man is already into their business more than Logan would like. “And he was alone.”

Eme nods her head and then steps forward as her father sniffs the air. “I know that smell,” she whispers. Her face turns a shade of white.

“Eme?” Logan prompts.

She turns back to face him. “I know that smell, Logan. I know that scent.”

“Who is it?” His heart skips a beat.

“It’s Dillon,” Lee growls.

“Dillon?” Wayne asks as Logan’s blood runs hot. “Who’s Dillon?”

“My old beta,” Lee divulges. “I let him go because he became obsessed with my daughter.”

“And he came here,” Logan says. His tone is deadly even to his own ears. It matches how he feels on the inside.

“What’s he doing here?” Eme asks, more to herself than to the group. She touches her chin as she looks at the snow.

“Someone bring me up to speed,” Wayne interrupts. “Why is Dillon obsessed with Eme?”

Lee squares his shoulders. “Because he demanded that they imprint. He didn’t take too kindly to ‘the Head Alpha stealing his girl.’ His words, not mine. It’s childish and petty. The young man has lost his mind.”

“He can’t have her,” Logan growls.

Lee puts up his hand. “That’s what I said. I would have never approved the mating. Dillon was a good beta, but he was distracted by the wrong things.”

“Quick to temper as well,” Eme adds. She runs a hand through her hair. “First the phone calls and now stalking. What’s next? Why can’t he just let it go?”

“I don’t know, honey,” Lee whispers.

She looks back at Logan. “What do we do?”

It’s Wayne who answers. “Well, he’s not here. His trail ends here, and then his trail heads back the way he came.”

Logan shifts his weight. What he would do to get his hands around Dillon’s neck for causing Eme to be so emotional, to question the situation she now finds herself in. “The question is: Why?” he asks instead of voicing all this.

“Who knows, man,” Wayne says.

“And there’s nothing I can do about it because he’s no longer in my pack,” Lee grumbles.

“Then what?” Eme begins. “We do nothing?”

“He headed back the direction he came,” Wayne repeats. “Right into the city.”

“He’s right,” Logan says. “There’s nothing we can do, not until he comes back and we catch him.”

“Fat chance if Becca is patrolling,” Wayne complains.

Eme curls in on herself. “I don’t like this, Logan.”

He sighs and pulls her into a hug. Screw Lee’s assumptions. “I won’t let him anywhere near you. I promise. Come on.” He presses a kiss to her head. “Let’s get you back inside.”
