“We’ve known each other for six months. I can take care of you.”

She gawks for a moment. “I’m confused. You didn’t want to date me, and now you want that much more?”

She’s not getting it, and that pisses me off.

I don’t mean now. Fuck, I don’t know what I mean.

My voice drops, exposing the frustration I can’t seem to contain.

“Never mind. Keep your job and be a whore to my dad.”

She gawks, speechless.

I made it worse.

“Don’t look at me like that, Harlow.”

Just then—

A figure steps away from the trailer, carrying the box from the picture. That stupid pair of crocodiles pokes through the open top.

Evan. He catches sight of Harlow in the car. He jogs over and leans down, looking into her window. She startles, but forces a smile.

Her hands shake as she undoes her seatbelt.

Oh, hell no.

“Harlow, hold on.”

“No! There’s nothing else to say. Screw you!”

She yanks her purse over her shoulder, but I lock her door, stopping her escape.

“Just hold on. I don’t want you to be upset. I wanted to fix things between us tonight.”

And I definitely don’t want her to have rebound sex with him.

She laughs, fake and loud. “You had sex with me, then threw me away like I’m nothing. It’s my own damn fault. You always said I was trailer trash. I shouldn’t be surprised you’re treating me like I am.”

A fist tightens around my heart. All I can see is Frida in bed with someone else. Frida getting fucked in the dance studio. That feeling. The same one I got when Harlow’s damn phone stole her attention. When she lied straight to my face, claiming it wasn’t her ex.

I wince as it worsens.

Ugly and relentless.

Because with her? It’s so much worse.

“Please don’t fuck him because you’re mad at me. You’ll regret it.”

She scoffs. “Oh, please, Killian. Grow up. Next time you dump a woman, don’t act like you care just because some other guy does.”

She wipes away her tears, getting herself composed for another man. Then she climbs out stiffly, one hand briefly gripping the car door.

I did that to her. She’s fucking mine.

I don’t know what’s happening to me, but I think I stopped breathing. My vision glitches. One second I see Harlow. The next, she’s blurring. They’re walking together, chatting like I don’t exist. The trailer door shuts.

They’re inside.
