I try not to squirm under her intense gaze. She taps her bright red nails on the table. “I’m waiting.”
“I was with Hunter.”
“And?”
“And we had sex and then he made me breakfast in the morning.”
Becca’s eyebrows shoot up. “What?”
“Blueberry pancakes.”
Becca sits back in her chair, looking stunned. “I’m…shook.”
I nod. “So was I.”
“He’s in love with you,” she says in awe.
If I were drinking coffee, I would’ve spit it out. “Don’t be ridiculous. One breakfast does not mean he’s in love.”
“A man has never made me breakfast after I spent the night. Ever.”
I frown, not wanting to make it seem like a big deal, but maybe it was.
“It’s a big deal,” Becca says like she can read my thoughts.
“I don’t know.”
She blows out a frustrated breath. “Girl, please. Just trust me. He obviously has feelings for you. I’d bet all my money on it.”
I set my chin in my hand and look away, wondering if Becca is right. Maybe Hunter likes me a little, but I don’t think it’s anything serious. At most, he just likes having sex with me. We’ve only known each other a little over a month now, and I’m not so naïve as to think our interactions during that time have been meaningful. Also, he’s a good-looking hockey star who has girls throwing themselves at him all the time. What’s so special about little old me?
Becca sips her coffee and levels a stare at me. “I can see the wheels turning in your head,” she says. “And you might not believe me now, but I’m saying it for the record: Hunter is totally going to fall for you. If he hasn’t already.”
I roll my eyes. “You’re ridiculous.”
She laughs. “I’m actually quite psychic. I’ve predicted many things in my life.”
“Can we change the subject?” I ask. “Let’s talk about you.”
“Me?” She points at herself. “My life is super boring lately.” But there’s a nervous energy in how she fiddles with her coffee all of a sudden.
I narrow my eyes at her. “Really.”
She flips her hair over her shoulder. “Yes. Really.”
Something dawns on me. “Wait, you were dancing with someone the other day at Madness.”
“You mean the night you made out with Hunter in the men’s bathroom?” She arches a brow. Every time she brings that up, I want to cringe. It sounds so bad when she says it out loud.
“Yes. That night.” I can’t believe I hadn’t remembered that Becca had been with someone. My memory is fuzzy because I had just had an unbelievable orgasm and was so drunk on Hunter.
“Also known as the night you ditched me.” Becca smirks. She’s loving this.
“I already apologized for that. Don’t try to evade the question. Who were you dancing with?”
She looks down and I know I’ve got her cornered.
“Becca?”
