Rohan kicks my leg lightly, laughing. “Yeah. Right, idiot.”
“Maybe we should try to email him back?” he says.
“I could … and say what though? Are you some mystical being?” I open my phone and try to pull up Noel’s last email, but it isn’t there anymore.
“It’s gone…” I say, sitting up next to Rohan, who tilts his head to see the screen.
“You sure it was him?”
“I’m sure. Stupid riddles and all.”
“Well, you still have the address, right?”
I go to start a new thread addressed to his usual work email, but it gives an error when I send the message. “It bounced? No way … this is definitely his email address.”
“So, he just doesn’t exist anymore?”
“I guess so.” I shrug, furrowing my brows.
“Whatever, it doesn’t matter anyway. We got out, and we’re okay. Freaky story we can tell our kids,” Rohan laughs, climbing into my lap.
“Our kids, huh?” I chuckle.
“Shut up,” he says, biting his lip, a little blush creeping up his neck.
Though the game quite actually tried to kill us both, I’m glad it brought us together. I’m glad I get to be seen by him. I wrap my arms around him tighter, falling back into the pillows. I nuzzle into his hair, don’t want him away from me for a second too long.
He yelps before biting my neck. “You can relax. I’m not going anywhere.”
“I wouldn’t let you, even if you tried.”
Chapter 38
Rohan
“Long time no see!” Milo grins.
I shut the door to his parents’ place behind me, walking right past him to the gaming room.
“Ignoring me in my own home is insane,” he laughs, trailing after me.
“Well, you’re kinda annoying.”
“Where you been lately?” he says, wiggling his brows and slinging his arm across my shoulder. “You’ve been skipping, Zayne’s pissed.”
“None of your business. And Zayne will get over it.”
“Zayne will not get over it,” Zayne sighs, coming into the room right after us. Lucas is already at our usual gaming station, waiting to start. Always the first one here. Sometimes even before Milo.
“Where have you been?” Zayne presses.
“Uh, I got a new job, remember.”
“I thought you said you don’t start for another three weeks,” Milo says, tilting his head, and I pinch his arm.
“Shut up, will you?”
“Seriously, Rohan, this isn’t like you. Let’s not make it a habit. I’m letting you off cause you never miss this much practice.”
